SITREP OVERVIEW Restoration of Canadian Army (CA). Since the 2011 restoration of the names of the Canadian Army (CA) and our Army s historic identity continues to be restored by our Government. CA Badge. Our day-to-day badge is now the historic device we used during and after WW II (see right). Traditional Names. Non-traditional names like Land, Branch or Area are now reverted back to traditional names like Army, Corps and Division. Corps. Our traditional Corps names have been restored, for example Royal Canadian Engineers (RCE) and Génie Royal Canadien (GRC). Divisions. Our former Areas are now Divisions: 2 Div CA (SQFT), 3 Cdn Div (LFWA), 4 Cdn Div (LFCA), and 5 Cdn Div (LFAA). LFDTS has been renamed Canadian Army Doctrine and Training Centre (CADTC). 2
SITREP OVERVIEW NCM Rank Names. QR&O 3.01 is currently being amended to legally restore the proud trade names of our pre-1968 Corps soldiers: (English / French) (Sapper/Sapeur) These names are informally used now but they will soon become official once again. NCM Rank Insignia. There will be NO changes to our pattern of NCM rank insignia. The WO crown rank on the CADPAT will be larger and all CADPAT slip-ons are available in high visibility thread as stocks of low visibility run out. Officer Rank Insignia. On order, all CA officers across the CAF will simultaneously begin wearing the restored rank badges in the pattern of our pre-1968 Canadian Army on all orders of dress. The intent is for this to take place on Monday 4 August 2014 the 100 th anniversary of the start of WW I if the distribution is complete. 3
DIVISION FORMATION PATCHES The CA has introduced a 2 x 3 Division patch in wool melton to be worn on the left shoulder of the DEU tunic. The left shoulder is the historically correct side for the Division formation patches. The first issue of these patches will be arriving at CDSGs of our four newly formed Cdn Divs in the next 30 days for distribution to the tailor shops. New 1 Cdn Div patches will follow this summer. ROYAL CANADIAN CORPS METAL SHOULDER TITLES The Armoured, Engineers, Signals, Infantry and Electrical and Mechanical Engineers Corps will restore their historic Corps shoulder titles. These Corps metal shoulder titles will be worn by all Corps personnel who do not have a distinctive Regimental shoulder title. OFFICER RANKS - DEU TUNIC METAL INSIGNIA Metal tunic insignia will be aval through clothing stores by Aug 14. There will be no coloured border. Our CA pattern of stars and crowns is shared by Commonwealth Nations. There are currently aval at the CFSME kitshop for $6.00/pr Authorization to put up these insignia will be on order - Not before 4 August 6
OFFICER RANKS Roll Out Step 1 - Officers Update their Logistik Unicorp (LU) Account. A CANFORGEN will be issued on 22 Apr 14 telling all CA officers to go to their LU account and complete a questionnaire to update their home address, update their tunic size, and indicate if they require CA buttons for their DEU tunic. Step 2 - Jun/Jul 14 Distribution. Once officers complete the questionnaire, they become eligible to be pushed a tunic to their home address with one complete set of metal rank badges, pinning-on instructions, one spare pair of devices, 3 pairs of DEU slip-ons, and they will be eligible to draw 3 CADPAT high visibility slip-ons from local Clothing Stores when they become available after 15 Jul 14. No LU account points will be deducted but officers will not be eligible to draw another tunic from 1 Apr 14 to 30 Jul 15 without special approval. Priority is being given to OUTCAN officers. Step 3 On Order (not before 4 Aug 14). On the same day and not before, all CA officers will put-up the new rank on all orders of dress. This date is the 100 th anniversary of the start of WW I. 7
High Vis CADPAT Rank Eligible to draw 3 CADPAT high visibility X slip-ons from local Clothing Stores when they become available after 15 Jul 14 RCE or GRC tabs will be aval through clothing stores at no cost or though the CFSME kit shop for $1.00/pr Unit identifiers such as 1 CER, 2 CER, 4 ESR, 5 RGC will also be aval through clothing stores. Authorization to wear these new slip-ons will be as per the DEU ranks on order, not before 4 Aug. NEW High Visibility CADPAT Insignia 8
DEU SLIP-ON EMBROIDERED RANK Officer ranks will come with Canada on the sip-on Slip-ons will come with coloured borders as shown in the encl Officers and NCMs will have to pay for their own RCE DEU slip-ons tabs. Sappers will be issued RCE tab at no cost Eligible to draw 3 pairs of DEU slip-ons from local Clothing Stores when they become available after 15 Jul 14 Currently aval at CFSME kit shop for $ 2.20/pr Authorization to wear these slip-ons will also be on order, not before 4 Aug 14. MESS DRESS All newly promoted officers are now required to wear the restored rank system of stars and crowns as per CANFORGEN 194/13 COMD CA 038/13 051700Z DEC 13 Personal purchase for the mess dress uniform. Cost is $ 8.00/pr at CFSME kit shop. Officers with the current CAF rank may convert to the restored rank system now but they are also grandfathered to continue to wear their current rank insignia until they are promoted. Army Engrs will reintroduce the gold single braid for Maj to Col and double braid for GOs rank back into the mess kit (winter-scarlet only). 10
GORGET PATCHES These traditional rank insignia of the general staff will be worn by Army Generals and Colonels on the DEU Order of Dress. These devices replace the crossed swords. These devices are not worn by Honouraries (Col Comdt) who represent their units/corps and not the general staff. The gorget patches are not symmetrical. There is a left and right design. Large gorget patches are worn on DEU jacket collar (3.5 x 1.25 ). A smaller clip-on version is worn on open shirt collars (2 x 1 ).
