THE CFGA GRATEFULLY ACKNOWLEDGES THE SPONSORS OF THIS YEAR S CONFERENCE. Platinum Sponsor MESSAGE FROM THE CFGA EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR The Canadian Forage and Grassland Association (CFGA) is the national voice for the Canadian forage industry that represents Canada s 70+ million acres of forage production, stewarded by more than 80,000 producers from across the country. The 8th Annual CFGA Conference will be held November 14-16, 2017 in Guelph, Ontario under the theme Next Generation Forage Cropping Systems: Profit Above, Wealth Below in recognition of the important role forage and grasslands play in providing both economic and environmental benefits to Canadians from coast to coast. Profit Above: With a direct economic value of $5.09 billion and over 70 million acres in production, forage is the largest land use sector in Canadian agriculture and is the backbone of Canada s ruminant industry. Wealth Below: Perennial forage crops contribute significant carbon sequestration benefits to Canadian society. Ongoing work by the CFGA will quantify the volume and value of this extensive environmental resource. Studies indicate that the Environmental Goods and Service value provided by the Canadian forage sector doubles the $5.09 billion direct economic value. Key topics for discussion during the conference include: Soil carbon storage Forage exports Soil health enhancement Profitable Forage Systems Be sure to attend this year s conference to learn about new forage practices, network with colleagues, discover new research on forage and grasslands, and receive tips on how to improve your environmental management plan. I look forward to welcoming you to Guelph in November as we celebrate Canada s largest agricultural sector. Cedric MacLeod CFGA Executive Director
