DEAN STUDENTS WELFARE OFFICE ADMINISTRATIVE FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES The office of the DSW co-ordinates and is associated with a number of activities related to the welfare of students. For this purpose, the Dean Students Welfare, along with a team of Deputy and Assistant DSWs, delivers the responsibilities entrusted to this office. The role and responsibilities of DSW are listed as follows: The D.S.W. co-ordinates the activities of various Halls of Residence and the Non- Resident Students Centre and the work of allotment of residential accommodation and shifting of residential students from one Hall to another Hall. The D.S.W. also monitors the functioning of the University Health Service and indoor treatment of students in consultation with the Chief Medical Officer and the Provost of the Halls of residence concerned. The D.S.W. coordinates the proper functioning of the dining halls to ensure uniformity of food cost and quality of food to the possible extent. The DSW is also Chairman of the Canteen Committee. The D.S.W. is actively involved in the running of the Coaching and Guidance Centre, National Social Service Scheme, Employment Bureau, Cultural Education Centre of the University and other co-curricular activities of students, in consultation with the In-Charge of the organization concerned. The D.S.W. is also the Coordinator of Admissions of Foreign Students and issues character certificates to the students after satisfactory reports issued from the Provosts, the Dean of Faculty concerned and the Proctor. The D.S.W. co-ordinates and arrange the disbursement of all financial aids, scholarships, stipends etc. to the students. The D.S.W. makes arrangements with Railway authorities for the issue of railway concessions to students during vacations, for educational tours and for students participation in extracurricular activities and sports. The admission/continuation to various test/non-test courses are processed and completed every year by extending all facilities at the level of the DSW. The DSW actively participates in erection of Pandals for celebration of important events like Sir Syed Day and Annual Convocation/programme in a befitting manner. Names of toppers, according to their merit, are recommended by DSW to be seated in Prime Minister s Box to witness the Republic Day Parade as and when asked by the Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India. The D.S.W. shall work for the welfare of the students as prescribed in the Regulations and also as directed by the Vice-Chancellor from time to time. 1

FELLOWSHIPS / SCHOLARSHIPS / AID TO STUDENTS / FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE, STIPENDS AND LOAN General Terms and Conditions 1. All Fellowships and Aid to Students shall be credited to the student s account from where awardees will be allowed to withdraw their credited balance according to rules (except for Ph.D. scholars, foreign students, backward class and scheduled caste students). 2. Research students getting Fellowships or Research Scholarships shall cease to get the same, if they are appointed teachers in the University or its maintained institutions. 3. All Scholarships shall be tenable for the same number of months for which tuition fee is charged unless otherwise provided in these Regulations, provided always that 75% of Scholarships of any description open to male candidates below the academic status of Masters, shall only be held by the students residing in the Halls of the University. 4. Scholarships which remain vacant under any particular category for any reason may be awarded to the student next in merit, in the same category but may not be awarded to a student of any other category. 5. Application for the Aid to Students (Studentships) and Scholarships other than Fellowships and Research Scholarships must be submitted on the prescribed form to the Dean Students Welfare, on the prescribed date, through the Provost and/or the Chairman of the Department and Dean of the Faculty concerned. 6. A meritorious and financially deserving student may be allowed to draw more than one scholarship tenable during the academic session; provided that the total amount of award does not exceed Rs.30,000/- per annum excluding Donor Assistance/Scholarship/any financial support/assistance from Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh. Other conditions of the scholarships awarded by the outside agencies are also fulfilled. Also while availing financial assistance from outside agencies student will be eligible to avail University Merit Financial Award (The nomenclature of 2

University Merit Scholarship has been changed to University Merit Financial Award vide letter D.No.(c)/7668 dated 19.08.2014). Students who are in receipt of U.P. Govt. / Central Govt. Scholarship will not be eligible to get HF (Half Freeship) / FF (Full freeship)/studentship (revised as Aid to Students ).Students who are in receipt of U.P. Govt. and Central Govt. Scholarships will have to return the HF (Half freeship) /FF (Full freeship)/ Studentship (revised as Aid to Students ) amount, if awarded at any stage. In case of award of University Scholarship, fee concession (full or half freeship), may be given provided the total amount does not exceed Rs.30,000/- per annum. 7. The following are the rules for the award of Merit Scholarship in Persian, Arabic and Sanskrit: (i) Scholarship shall be awarded strictly on merit. (ii) Scholarship shall be awarded strictly on the basis of a test in Senior Secondary School Certificate, B.A. (Hons.) and M.A. (iii) Those who are awarded the Scholarship of B.A. (Hons.) during first year shall receive the Scholarship for the entire course, provided they secure at least second division marks in the subject at the end of each year. (iv) Those who get Scholarship in M.A. during the first year will get it for two years, provided they secure at least second division marks in the subject at the end of each year. (v) If a Scholarship falls vacant in B.A. (Hons.) after first year, a test shall be held. If there is a vacancy in B.A. (Hons.) and M.A. after second and first year, respectively, the Scholarship shall be awarded on the basis of marks obtained in the preceding examinations. (vi) Half of the Scholarships will go to Women s College at the Undergraduate level. 8. The term of all the Merit Scholarships based on Competitive test and University Examination results in the Faculties of Agricultural Sciences, 3

Arts, Social Sciences, Science, Life Sciences and Law shall initially be for 11 months which may further be continued in the subsequent years depending on the performance of the previous examinations where the percentage of marks should not be less than 60%. If the Scholarship holder fails in the Examination or indulges in misconduct, the Scholarship shall not be continued in subsequent years. The Scholarship falling vacant on these accounts will be awarded to the candidate who have appeared in the respective Examinations and is/are next in order of merit. Also, if a student is awarded University Merit Financial Award during first year/first semester and then he/she is admitted to any new course, the remaining period of University Merit Financial Award may be given to the student standing next in the order of merit (if recommended by the Chairman of the Department concerned) 9. The Scholarships in Faculty of Medicine shall be tenable for 18 months instead of 11 months. 4

ALHAJ BEGUM QAZI ALMAS KHAN SCHOLARSHIP Merit Scholarship of Rs.11/- per month, shall be awarded to a female student who secures the second highest marks at B.A/B.Sc. Examination and pursues her studies further in M.A./M.Sc., provided she passes in First or Second Division. 11. MRS. WAHEEDA AHMAD ENDOWMENT FOR SCHOLARSHIP Two Scholarships, one each in Previous and Final Years of M.A./M. KHAN SCHOLARSHIP Two Scholarships of Rs.250/- per month each, tenable for 10 months, to be awarded to the students securing highest marks, in order of merit, at the Entrance Examination of B.Tech., subject to the condition that the income of his parent/guardian does not exceed Rs.2,000/- per month. The Scholarship shall continue for the duration of the course provided the recipient continues good progress in studies. Expenditure will be met out of the interest earned on the donation made by Dr. Nasir Ahmad Khan. 16. HAMEEDUDDIN KHAN SCHOLARSHIP Two scholarships of Rs.45/- per month, tenable for 11 months, to be awarded every year to deserving Muslim students, each of the Faculties of Medicine, Science, Life Sciences and Engineering and Technology. 17. SIR ABDUL RAUF SCHOLARSHIP (LOAN) There is a provision of Rs.1,500/- per year, to be distributed from amongst deserving students of Engineering by the Academic Council, on the recommendation of the Principal, Z.H. College of Engineering and Technology and University Polytechnic. Students selected for this award shall be required to execute a bond. 18. MRS. RAFIA SULTAN SCHOLARSHIP Two Scholarships/Stipends of Rs.200/- per month tenable for 11 months, to be given to poor and meritorious Muslim students each, of the Faculties of Medicine and Engineering and Technology. 32

RANGOONWALA FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE Financial Assistance to poor students in Commerce, Electronics, Computer and Petro-Chemical Engineering courses is to be given, out of the earnings on the investment of Rs.1 Lakh donated by the Bombay Mercantile Cooperative Bank. 20. RAJA AKBAR ALI KHAN OF PINDRAWAL SCHOLARSHIP One Scholarship of Rs.500/- per month tenable for 10 months, to be given to a meritorious and deserving Muslim student from U.P., in the Department of Computer Engineering. The Scholarship will be awarded out of the interest earned on the donation made by Raja Raza Ali Khan of Pindrawal. 21. RANI PAKEEZA BEGUM OF PINDRAWAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIP One Scholarship of Rs.500/- per month, tenable for 10 months, is to be given to a meritorious and deserving Muslim student from U.P., in the Department of Architecture. The Scholarship will be awarded out of the interest earned on the donation made by Raja Raza Ali Khan of Pindrawal. 22. KRISHNA ENGINEERING SCHOLARSHIP Four Scholarships, each of the value of Rs.250/- per month, tenable for 12 months, to be awarded to the students, one each from First, Second, Third and Fourth Year of B.Tech. (Civil). The award of Scholarships shall be made to students without consideration of religion, cast, creed, sex or any other such aspect. The Scholarships shall be given on the basis of merit-cum-financial need. The expenditure will be met out of the interest earned on the donation of Rs.1,00,000/- made by Mr. Krishna Murari Gupta. 23. KRISHNA ENGINEERING SCHOLARSHIP (ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING) One Scholarship of Rs.250/- per month tenable for 12 months, out of the interest on donation of Rs.1,00,000/- given by Shri Krishna 33

Murari Gupta, shall be awarded to one student each studying in First, Second, Third and Fourth Year B.Tech. (Electronics Engineering). The Scholarships shall be awarded to students without consideration of religion, cast, creed, sex or any other such aspect. The award shall be given by the University on merit-cum-financial need basis every year at the beginning of the Academic Session. 24. KARGIL HERO CAPTAIN HANEEFUDDIN KRISHNA ENGINEERING SCHOLARSHIP IN COMPUTER ENGINEERING One Scholarship of Rs.250/- per month, tenable for 12 months, out of the interest on donation of Rs.1,00,000/- given by Shri Krishna Murari Gupta, shall be awarded to one student each studying in First, Second, Third and Fourth Year B.Tech. (Computer Engineering). The Scholarships shall be awarded to students without consideration of religion, cast, creed, sex or any other such aspect. The scholarship shall be awarded on the basis of merit-cum-financial need. The students shall be selected for the award in the beginning of the session and the award list shall be sent to the donor and also to the mother of Captain Haneefuddin. 25. HUSNA SHIBLI SCHOLARSHIP Out of the interest earned on donation of Rs.1,12,000/- given by the sons and daughter of Maulana Shibli Nadvi, nine Scholarships (3 in Electronics Engineering, 3 in Computer Engineering and 3 in Chemical Engineering), one each to the students of Second, Third and Fourth Year of each of the above branches @ Rs.125/- per month each, tenable for 10 months, will be awarded as per detailed terms and conditions contained in Executive Council (AMU) Resolution No.14 of the minutes dated 27.2.98 and circulated under No.C-III-EC (sch) 5/550 dated 01.4.99. 26. PROF. KR. KHALIL A. KHAN SCHOLARSHIP (i) (ii) One Scholarship of the value of Rs.100/- per month tenable for 10 months, shall be awarded in the Third Year, on the basis of merit of Second Year B.Tech. (Electronics) result and financial status of the student. One Scholarship of the value of Rs.100/- per month tenable for 10 months, shall be awarded in the Final Year on the basis of 34

THE NURUL HASAN SCHOLARSHIP Three Scholarships, (one each in Second, Third and Final Year) of Rs.800/- per month, tenable for 12 months, to be awarded to students of B.Tech. (Computer Engineering) on merit and need basis, out of the income of Endowment Fund established by the Nurul Hasan Educational and Research Foundation. 28. SYED ALI RAZA MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP This Scholarship of Rs.200/- per month, for 10 months, out of the donation of Rs.20,000/- made by Syed Ali Jafar, shall be awarded to the best Muslim student of Fourth Year Electrical Engineering on the basis of his/her three years performance in the class. The awardee should not take/ have not taken any other Scholarship from any source after or before the award of this scholarship. The Chairman of the Department /D.S.W. shall communicate to the donor,prof. S. Jafar Raza Zaidi on his/her address every year, the name of the awardee along with the marks obtained by him/her in previous year. 29. PANDIT SURENDRA NATH MISHRA VIDYA MERIT SCHOLARSHIP One Merit Scholarship shall be awarded to a student of B.Tech. III Year (any branch) at Z.H. College of Engineering and Technology, as a regular student having passed his/her I and II Year B.Tech. Examination in first attempt, for 20 months of the two academic sessions during which he/she would pursue his/her studies in III and IV Year of B.Tech. course. The payment will be met out of the interest earned on the donation of Rs. 2 Lakhs made by Shri Sarvesh Narain Mishra, Lucknow. 30. DR. FAREED A. NIZAMI ENDOWMENT SCHOLARSHIP There is a provision of two scholarships entitled Dr. Fareed A. Nizami Endowment Scholarship of the value of Rs.100/- month tenable for 11 months to be given to needy and deserving Sunni Muslim students from U.P., in B.Ed and M.B.B.S.(I.Year), out of interest earned on the donation made by Prof.Fareed A. ABDUL SAMI KIDWAI MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP ( CIVIL ENGINEERING) Scholarship of Rs. 1000/- per month, for ten months will be given to a financially deserving student pursuing B.Tech.(Civil) at University. 32. PROF. JALALUDDIN SCHOLARSHIP (ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING) One scholarship of lump-sum amount Rs.10000/- to be awarded to a Muslim student of B. Tech. (I) (Electrical) on the basis of merit cum means. 33. HAJI ALTAF HUSAIN SCHOLARSHIP (CIVIL ) One scholarship of lump-sum amount Rs.10000/- to be awarded to a Muslim student of B. Tech. (I) (Civil). 34. ER. ABDUL AZIM KHAN (CIVIL ENGINEERING) One Scholarship of Rs.1000/- per month tenable for 10 months, is to be given to a poor and needy Muslim student of B. Tech. First Year (Civil) Engineering. The Scholarship will be awarded out of the interest earned on fixed deposit given by donors. 35. PROF.JALALUDDIN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP To be given to needy and meritorious Muslim students, out of the interest earned on the investment of Rs.5 lakhs, given by donors. 36. DR. MUMTAZ KHAN SCHOLARSHIP There is a provision of four scholarships of Rs.1000/- per month, tenable for 12 months to be given to the students of B.Tech.(Final) in the branches of Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Computer Engineering (one each). These scholarships are to be given to economically weak muslim students (to be decided mutually by Dean and Chairman) and also on the basis of results of first year to third year B.Tech. Ehtisham Abidi, shall be awarded to the Fifth Year Muslim student of B.A. L.L.B. on the basis of his/ her performance of previous four years. Final (Biochemistry) who has passed the M.Sc. Previous with First Division marks, provided that the income of her parent/guardian does not exceed Rs 1500/- per month and that the awardee is not getting any other University Scholarship. 3. ALHAJ BEGUM QAZI ALMAS KHAN SCHOLARSHIP Merit Scholarship of Rs.11/- per month, to be given to a female student who secures the second highest marks in B.A./B.Sc. examination and pursues her studies further in M.A. and M.Sc. provided she passes in First or Second Division. 4. DR. MOHD. FAROOQ SCHOLARSHIP Four Scholarships (two for boys and two for girls) of the value of Rs.300/- per month each, tenable for 10 months, will be awarded to students of M.Sc. (Final)( Botany) who have secured First Division marks in the M.Sc. (Previous) (Botany) course in order of merit. If during any session, the required number of students in the ratio mentioned above is not available, the scholarship may not be awarded in any other manner and the remaining unpaid amount carried over may be distributed in the next year equally among the four students.
