Scholarship Criteria The Skye Foudatio ad the Skye Iteratioal Foudatio award a umber of aual scholarships to postgraduates of exceptioal merit who ited to read for a higher degree or prosecute research uder the directio of leaders i their particular fields. Uder exceptioal circumstaces, awards may also be made i support of o-degree courses at postgraduate level. The Trustees may, at their discretio, also award fuds towards purchase of research materials ad equipmet required by cadidates selected for support. The field of study is urestricted. Awards are teable at South Africa uiversities with a prove record of quality research i the relevat field or, at the discretio of the Trustees, at recogised istitutios of higher learig aywhere i the world.
Eligibility Skye scholarships are awarded o the basis of outstadig academic achievemet i ay disciplie ad they are therefore awarded oly to cadidates of exceptioal merit who have distiguished themselves academically i their first or subsequet degrees ad are likely, i the opiio of Trustees ad their peers, to cotiue to achieve at a high level. The Trustees will geerally oly cosider cadidates who have bee omiated by Deas of faculties ad supported by academic leaders i their disciplie. It is ot possible for cadidates to apply directly for support ad ay applicatios so received will ot be ackowledged. The Trustees will actively seek suitable cadidates through approaches to local research uiversities. Cadidates would ormally be South Africa Citizes or permaet residets who are uder the age of 30.

Nomiatios Please ote that availability of fuds may restrict the umber of cadidates that we are able to cosider ad we caot guaratee that your cadidate will be iterviewed. Awards are decided at a Trustees meetig held i May each year. Nomiatios i respect of overseas study must reach us by the ed of Jauary 2013 at the latest. Trustees decisios will be made kow i May, leavig ample time for the cadidate to make the ecessary arragemets. Nomiatios i support of higher degree or post doctoral study i South Africa should also be submitted by the ed of Jauary.
Value of Awards Awards are geerous ad may, depedig o circumstaces, be sufficiet to cover tuitio fees, livig expeses, travel ad other costs. Awards are geerally for oe academic year ad may be reewed, at the discretio of Trustees, for loger periods subject to idicatios of substatial progress o the part of the holder. I the case of the PhD, early acceptace of research fidigs for publicatio would be a expectatio, as would presetatio of fidigs at iteratioal cofereces i the particular disciplie. Depedig o the value of the Skye scholarship, Trustees may impose a limit o the value of other scholarships that ca be held cocurretly.

This is a joit PhD scholarship coverig the Cambridge Uiversity compositio fee, college fee ad aual stiped for 3 years of PhD study i ay disciplie. The scholarship is oly available to South Africa citizes ad is awarded o the basis of outstadig academic merit. Cadidates must be omiated to the Skye Foudatio by faculty Deas (as described elsewhere i this presetatio). To be eligible, cadidates must be idepedetly selected by both the Skye Foudatio ad by the Cambridge Commowealth Trust ad must have applied for admissio to Cambridge before 4 December 2012.
