Diodati, a native of Scarborough, Maine, won two events in a quad meet last Saturday at Pittsburgh. She earned a pair of 9.825 scores on vault and uneven bars. Amy Bieski scored a 9.750 or better on three events in a quad meet at Michigan State. She won floor with a 9.850 score and finished second on bars with a 9.800 mark. ROOKIE OF THE WEEK Brooke Barr, NCSU, Freshman Harrisburg, Pa. Brooke Barr led the Wolfpack on three events in a tri-meet against Michigan and Kent State, scoring a 9.750 on each. She finished third on the floor overall, and fifth on both vault and beam. FROM THE EAGL NEST George Washington The Colonials scored a 48.650 team total on beam at the Lindsey Ferris Invitational, with all six competitors scoring no less than a 9.600. Junior Christa Devine notched two strong scores in her events on bars (9.700) and beam (9.775). Four Colonials notched season high s, most notably by Kristen Simpson, who scored a 9.700 on floor in GW s final rotation. New Hampshire New Hampshire is now undefeated with a 4-0 record after winning a quad meet at Pitt with a season high score of 194.025. The Wildcats either won or tied for first in all four events in the four-team meet. Junior Helena Diodati earned first-place honors on the vault (9.825) and on bars (9.825). Freshman Diane Reibold recorded a 38.125 for second place in the all-around. NC State Maryland Despite enjoying some solid individual efforts, Maryland fell to 12th-ranked Ohio State, 194.750 to 190.525 on Saturday. Abbey Adams won on vault and five other Terrapins ( Brenner, George, King, McDermid and Tossone) also improved at least one score from the team s season-opening victory over Kent State. The Terps also improved their collective scores from last week on bars (48.0) and beam (47.950). North Carolina The UNC gymnastics team came away from the nation s capital with yet another GW/Lindsey Ferris Invitational title. For the fourth time for seniors Rachel Schneider and Jennifer Valby, the Tar Heels won this meet, leading the Tar Heels to a team total of 192.925. Junior Christine Nguyen took the beam title for the meet, posting a 9.850. Nguyen also won floor, scoring a 9.775. Senior Rachel Schneider and freshman Zoya Johnson led the team on bars, tying for first, each scoring a 9.750. Pittsburgh NC State finished third in a tri-meet at Michigan, scoring a 191.150. Freshman Brooke Barr scored three 9.750s in the meet, finishing third on floor and fifth on beam and vault. Sophomore Brittany Vontz was fifth in the allaround, and third on bars with a 9.825. Pitt posted a season-high 193.025 en route to a second place finish at the Pitt Invitational this past weekend. Seven Pitt gymnasts set career-high marks in the quadrangular meet. In addition to the season-high score, the Panthers also set season high marks as a team on two events, vault and floor. Rutgers Rutgers placed fifth in a strong field of six schools at the Lindsey Ferris/GW Invitational on Friday with a score of 186.250. Freshman Danae Johnson led RU with her top performances in the floor and beam. Johnson s 9.600 mark earned her fifth on the floor, and her 9.675 beam score tied for 16th. Senior Latara Northcutt competed in the allaround for the first time season, replaced an injured Sevarino as RU s all-around competitor on Saturday posting a score of 37.150. West Virginia The Mountaineers are off to their third-best start through two meets in 12 years. WVU has a combined 387.775 pts after its first two meets of the season. Three Mountaineers won events, as Chelsi Tabor won vault (9.825), while Mehgan Morris finished first on bars (9.825) and Amy Bieski won floor (9.850). Though WVU was short-handed due to injury and illness, the Mountaineers still performed well with underclassmen in the lineup. Freshmen Tina Maloney and Nicole Roach made their floor and bars debuts, respectively, and completed solid routines.
