Why was I selected? Due to your exemplary performance on the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT 10), which was administered in October of 2017, you have qualified to participate in a districtwide PSAT/NMSQT preparation program.

The National Merit Scholarship Program Established in 1955 to identify and recognize scholastically talented youth, whom by taking the PSAT/NMSQT, enter a nationwide competition in which top performers are awarded scholarships. The test serves nearly 1.5 million entrants each year, and according to the College Board, students that take the PSAT/NMSQT score 145 points higher on the SAT than those that don t. Top performers will be recognized as either National Merit Commended, National Merit Semifinalist and National Merit Finalist.
Scholarship Categories Scholars receive one of the three types of awards which are centrally coordinated by NMSC. National Merit Scholarship a $2,500 scholarship, which is funded directly by NMSC. This award is portable, meaning that you can take it to any institution of your choice. Corporate-sponsored Merit Scholarship - generally awarded to students who are sons/daughters of parents who work for a corporation that sponsors. This award is also portable. College-sponsored Merit Scholarship - which comes from the college that you designate as your college choice, provided that the college sponsors National Merit Finalists.

PSAT Boot Camp Goal: To provide students, who through superior performance on the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT 10), demonstrated potential to qualify as a National Merit Scholar, an opportunity to participate in a rigorous preparation program designed to help academically advanced 10 th grade students prepare for the PSAT given in the fall of their Jr. year (Wednesday, October 11, 2017). Service Design: Instruction will be delivered by an experienced, nationally recognized test prep provider - Princeton Review. Students participating in the program will receive the following: 25 hours of direct instruction 2 practice tests (4 hours each) Course manual for SAT SAT workbooks (verbal/math)

What s the Cost? The normal cost of this Princeton Review Boot Camp is $999 per student. However, Humble ISD is very committed to improving student test scores and is, therefore, making this program available to top Humble ISD students free of cost. Being that seats are limited, in addition to a firm commitment from interested parents/students, a $25 non-refundable fee will be charged to reserve a seat for your student. Payments may be made through RevTrak on the Humble ISD webpage - https://humbleisd.revtrak.net/other/advanced- Academics/#/v/Humble-ISD-PSAT-Boot-Camp-1051. Incorporating during summer school allows for maximum use of district allotted resources such as climate controlled classrooms, transportation and breakfast/lunch. Space will be limited and only 50 seats will be made available district-wide.

Standardized test scores - Almost every school accepts the ACT and the SAT for admission. - Some schools require SAT Subject Tests. - If you re in an AP course, you should take the corresponding AP test. You can get college credit, and they look GREAT on college apps.
