HOME DECORATING AND DESIGN Youth Center Thursday, July 26, 2018 Colette Masterson, Assistant Superintendent Brenda Young, Assistant Superintendent GENERAL GUIDELINES 1. Age of Participants To be eligible for Outstanding of the Day or Clock Trophy, participants must meet the 4-H age noted in the specific class (project) guidelines or younger. 2. Participation Guidelines: Winner of any one class in 2017 is not eligible to participate in the same class for 2018. No more than one participant in any one class will be allowed per county and no one individual may participate in more than one class. 3. Type of Evaluation: Participant will have a personal interview evaluation with a judge. Judge will evaluate participant on the following basis (also see sample score sheet): 50% Knowledge (skills and understanding gained through the project) 25% Interview (Presentation of the project) 25% Project Display (Quality) 4. Participant to bring: Completed project book. A display representing their learning experience of the current project. The display may be in addition to what was used either at local 4-H judging or at county fair and should be limited in size to what the participant can maneuver on his or her own. Because of space limitations each participant removes his/her display from the judging area when the interview is completed. The display does not need to be a tri-fold display board. Participants will have a 3 x3 square floor area or 3 feet of table space to display. Any displays exceeding this space requirement will be ineligible for Outstanding of the Day or Clock Trophy. Refer to additional project requirements as listed in class list below. CLASSES J-1 IT S MY HOME Beginner level, for ages 8 years and older with priority given to 4-H ers within the beginner level age group of 8-10 years. Participants need to bring an item constructed in the project according to the requirements listed in the project book, visuals to show how the item helps make more pleasing and practical living spaces in the home. J-2 MAKEOVER MY SPACE -- Junior (ages 11-13) J-3 MAKEOVER MY SPACE-- Senior (ages 14-18) J-4 YOUR FIRST HOME AWAY FROM HOME Advanced Level, priority given to 4-H ers 16 and older. Participants need to bring their project books and an exhibit (items selected or made for their first home, or records, pictures, etc.) showing how they ve used the knowledge, ideas, and principles related to housing, furnishings, management, and equipment in planning their first home away from home. J-5 THE LAUNDRY PROJECT

AWARDS AND SPONSORS 1. All participants will receive participation awards, sponsored by The Ohio State Fair. 2. Outstanding of the Day ribbons, sponsored by The Ohio State Fair will be awarded to the top 20% of each class. 3. A clock trophy will be awarded to each class winner. 2017 sponsors included: John and Anne Foltz; Betsy Moore; Tracy Nider, and The Ohio Township Association 4. Awards will be presented at 4:00 p.m. on the northwest stage in the 4-H Exhibit area. JUDGING SCHEDULE: The exact schedule of participation will depend on the number reporting at any one time.
