LSVT GLOBAL announces the BIG for LIFE Online Training Course for LSVT BIG Certified PT and OT professionals! The BIG for LIFE Online Training Course provides LSVT BIG Certified Clinicians with the tools and knowledge needed to start and run postdischarge BIG for LIFE exercise classes in their communities for people who have completed LSVT BIG treatment. This course is an advanced level course offered to LSVT BIG Certified Clinicians. The research based rationale for community based exercise for people with Parkinson disease will be reviewed, along with information on how to structure and design BIG for LIFE classes tailored for a variety of individuals. Ethical and legal considerations as well as marketing strategies will be discussed. Teaching methods include pre-recorded lecture with PowerPoint slides (online and printed), video demonstrations, and knowledge review questions at the end of each module. An examination will be given at the end with an 80% score required to pass. What is BIG for LIFE? BIG for LIFE is a new maintenance exercise program developed so that patients who have completed LSVT BIG treatment can practice their exercises and BIG movements not just at home by themselves, but also in a group setting with others like them. BIG for LIFE maintenance exercise classes are intended to be fun, challenging, engaging, and will provide patients with additional opportunities for social interaction while they exercise! BIG for LIFE Online Training Course Steps to become a BIG for LIFE Provider: 1. Be a current LSVT BIG Certified Clinician (i.e., Renewal up-to-date) *This activity does not count towards or replace the requirement to complete the LSVT BIG Certification Renewal course. 2. Register for the BIG for LIFE Training Course. 3. Complete the entire BIG for LIFE Online Training Course (six course modules, exam, and course survey) within a 90-day period, which begins on the day of registration. 4. Complete the course exam with an 80% or better score required. If a participant does not pass the examination, there will be an opportunity for retake. BIG for LIFE Training Provides: A three-hour online BIG for LIFE training course with printed training materials (downloadable and shipped) BIG for LIFE designation upon completion of course and passing exam Listing as a BIG for LIFE Provider on the LSVT Global Clinician Directory Already running a post-discharge class for LSVT BIG Graduates? Identify the scientific rationale for BIG for LIFE maintenance classes. Discuss the LSVT BIG optimal wellness model in management of PD by therapists. Identify at least three barriers to exercise specific to Parkinson disease. addition to the need for general daily exercise as it pertains to optimal symptom management in PD. Describe how to adapt or progress LSVT BIG Maximal Daily Exercises in a group setting for safety and adequate challenge for patients with various levels of functioning. Design BIG for LIFE class plans including functional tasks, BIG walking, and LSVT BIG exercises that are safe, functional, and engaging. LSVT Trademark Use The LSVT trademark and other logos appearing within LSVT s website and on LSVT's literature are registered and unregistered trademarks of LSVT Global, Inc. Only individuals directly certified by LSVT Global, Inc. and who have attended an LSVT Training and Certification Course with specific training in the LSVT modalities of treatment for individuals with speech or movement disorders related to Parkinson disease and other neurological disorders or conditions are entitled to use the LSVT trademarks. An individual who has attended this Course and received a certificate of LSVT training will be able to use the LSVT trademark to refer to themselves as an LSVT BIG Certified Clinician and a BIG for LIFE Provider. Any non-sanctioned use is strictly prohibited. BIG for LIFE TRAINING FACULTY The LSVT BIG faculty collectively have over 200 years of experience as physical or occupational therapists, personally treated over 2,000 people with PD or other neural disorders using LSVT BIG, and trained over 10,000 physical and occupational therapists in 38 countries. Laura Gusé, MPT, MSCS Ms. Gusé received her Master s Degree in Physical Therapy from the University of North Dakota. Ms. Gusé has worked extensively in the area of neurogenic disorders since then, both in outpatient and inpatient settings. She has specialized in treatment of Parkinson disease and Multiple Sclerosis. She has been certified in LSVT BIG since 2009, and is a Multiple Sclerosis Certified Specialist. She is an LSVT BIG faculty member and Expert Clinician, and has helped to develop many of the current LSVT BIG treatment tools, webinars, and curriculum. She now serves as the Chief Clinical Officer of LSVT BIG for LSVT Global. Jenny Tuccitto, MPT, GCS Ms. Tuccitto received her Master s degree in Physical Therapy from the College of St Catherine in Minneapolis, MN in 2001. As a physical therapist, she treats a wide variety of clients with neurological and/or orthopedic diagnoses at Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute, part of Allina health in Minnesota. She serves as the facility lead for treatment of clients with Parkinson disease. Ms. Tuccitto is an LSVT BIG Faculty member & Expert Clinician, and has assisted with development of many LSVT BIG treatment tools including the LSVT BIG Homework Helper DVD. She has presented for the National Parkinson Foundation, the Minnesota Physical Therapy Association, and at the American Speech and Hearing Association on LSVT BIG as well as being actively involved with local Parkinson supportgroups.
