PROFILE OF JOSEPH WILLIAM YEE EU The late Joseph William Yee Eu affectionately called Joe Eu is the great grandson of Eu Tong Sen. Eu Tong Sen was the founder of Eu Yan Sang (1959) Sdn Bhd, where a street name, a building and a court in Singapore bears the name of the regional businessman and philanthropist. Eu Tong Sen was a passionate Malaysian Chinese with great humanity. From the very start, Eu Tong Sen offered Traditional Chinese herbal remedies to help improve the health of the migrant Chinese, who otherwise would have resorted to opium for the relief of their pain and ill-health. Eu Tong Sen s vision and dedication has since been rigidly upheld. His vision continues to inspire and motivate the late Joseph William Yee Eu and the subsequent Eu s generations. Joseph Eu took the Chair of Eu Yan Sang for the period of 1993 2007. Joe Eu s was a man of compassion and his contribution to charity is now legend and is characteristic of his heart. Joe Eu had expressed a wish for the establishment of a Foundation which deals with education for the less fortunate. The Joseph William Yee Eu Foundation materialized in his lifetime where he made a generous seed donation that has grown to the status of a Charitable Trust today under able administrators. Joseph William Yee Eu passed away in March 2007. His wife Dato Anne Eu has always been supportive and continues with their charitable good works. 4
What is the Registered Trustees of the Joseph William Yee Eu Foundation A Foundation called the Joseph William Yee Eu Foundation was established in 1994. Named after the late Mr Joseph William Yee Eu, it is a fitting legacy and is a testimony of the enormous contributions of the late Mr Eu to charity. The purpose of the Foundation is to provide scholarship and other assistance to needy and deserving students regardless of race, creed, religion, nationality to advance their education at universities, colleges, schools or other institutions of learning in Malaysia, Singapore and elsewhere, and providing grants for research in institutions of higher learning and to other needy causes. The Registered Trustees of the Joseph William Yee Eu Foundation was incorporated under the Trustees (Incorporation) Act 1952 (Act 258) with effect from 24 th February 2010 to expand its activities for the benefit of a larger population of Malaysian. 5
THE OBJECT AND PURPOSE OF THE TRUST The Trust pursuant to this Deed is established for the following educational purposes:- (i) to provide scholarships and other assistance to needy and deserving students, regardless of race, creed, religion or nationality, and to advance their education in universities, colleges, schools or elsewhere; (ii) to provide grants for research in institutions of higher learning; (iii) for the furtherance of any general charitable object for the benefit and advancement of education and research and training; (iv) for the furtherance of any general charitable object or betterment and/or need and/or the benefit of society in general including but not limited to any and all citizens of Malaysia (v) such other purpose which the Trustees may unanimously deem fit and proper wherein such determination shall be made upon and/or guided by principles Brotherly Love, Relief and Truth [hereinafter collectively referred to as the Purpose ] 6
