The presenter will utilize techniques often used in business and within ASM to strategically align all facets of the organization's mission and vision to serve the members and volunteers of the materials science community. Chapter Websites A Chapter Website can be a powerful tool when trying to market your Chapter and its activities to members and potential members. There have been exciting changes to ASM sponsored Chapter Websites! ASM Production Coordinator, Kelly Sukol, will take ASM attendees through an overview of the new ASM sponsored Chapter Websites and share some tips and tricks for effective use of your Chapter's site. The first portion of this session will also provide an extensive look at the benefits provided by ASM International. Presenters Ryan Deacon, ASM Chapter Council and Rachel Pitman, Senior Manager of Membership and Volunteerism, will then take you through exercises and best practices on how to convey these to your membership. 1:30 pm - 2:00 pm Volunteerism Recruitment/Recognition The Volunteerism initiative of ASM s Strategic Plan may be the single most important program for the future of ASM. Without volunteerism, nothing else is possible. This workshop will provide an overview of the resources and tools available to ASM Chapter leaders to assist them in their efforts to recruit, retain, and recognize high quality volunteers share best practices and success stories from Chapters, Affiliate Societies and Members and review key resources focusing on how Chapters have used these tools, and the results achieved. In this session we will touch on resources and opportunities made available to assist chapters in improving their programs. A healthy portion of this topic will focus on best practices of chapters who are willing to take programming risks to excel in this area. This workshop will also cover basic marketing do s and don ts and provide attendees with practical communications tips and templates to use in Chapter communications. Presented by Director of Sales and Marketing, Skip Wolfe. Fundamentals of Materials Camp ASM Materials Camps are thought provoking, idea generating workshops. Participants will learn the fundamentals of establishing a Materials Camp and hear about best practices and recommendations that will accelerate STEM education and training initiatives in your community. 1:00 pm - 1:30 pm The Elusive Student Member Student engagement is vital to the continued success of ASM. This session will provide answers to the challenging question: Who are our student members? An overview of Material Advantage, both its unique challenges and member benefits, will be discussed. The second part of the presentation will focus on millennials and their experiences with local ASM chapters. Presented by Student & Emerging Professional Specialist, Drew Fleming. 1:30 pm - 2:00 pm Emerging Professionals Committee The Emerging Professionals demographic is key to the future growth of ASM International, and the Emerging Professionals Committee (EPC) exists to address the needs of young professional members. This session will focus on the programs and assistance provided by the EPC to help local chapters engage young professional members, as well as best practices from several local chapters. An open discussion of any additional guidance needed by local chapters will be encouraged. Presented by Emerging Professionals Committee Representative, Jessica Durden. 2:00 pm - 2:30 pm Women in Materials Engineering Committee The new ASM Women in Materials Engineering Committee focuses on providing women-specific programming, networking opportunities, mentoring, and career development opportunities. This presentation will help you understand how to capture their engagement and encourage them to be more active within your chapter.
