Sinchem Objectives Educational objectives to provide excellent research training in a multicultural setting, to improve career perspectives of young doctoral candidates by maintaining a strong focus on the industrial relevance of their doctoral research Scientific objectives to perform world-level science in the field of sustainable industrial chemistry to facilitate the emergence of industrially relevant discoveries and innovations.

Sinchem Objectives SINCHEM programme represents a coherent action which extends and gives continuity to the workpackage dedicated to Education in the successful European Network of Excellence IDECAT Integrated Design of Catalytic Nanomaterials for a Sustainable Production (2005-2010) Over 500 researchers and students, over 37 institutes and research laboratory from 17 different European Countries, having achieved several dissemination and educational events such as, for example, different editions of the summer school NANOCAT: Molecular and supramolecular approach to nanodesigned catalyst

SINCHEM Programme Actors, stakeholders and companies in sustainable chemistry provide long term direction and guidance for research. Companies which have also different roles: i) be involved in specific training activities (for example, in educational activities during summer schools), ii) iii) - supervise some students together with the academic supervisors, and accept student for a short training period (typically during the 3rd year of the Doctorate).

SINCHEM Main Research Sectors Key features of principles related to sustainable/green chemistry and critical elements for the innovation in the sustainable chemical industry: Development of innovative catalysts and catalytic processes. Novel green solvents. Renewable energy and raw materials. Micro-reactors and membrane. The SINCHEM project catalog provides yearly an overview of specific research subjects. SINCHEM Programme PhD Programme Lab-based Research activities Mobility At least two mandatory mobility periods, the first in a different Universities of the consortium (HOST 1 - for at least 26 weeks) and the second (HOST 2 - for at least 10 weeks) in one of the associated company members (or alternatively in a second different University); Educational/training programme to provide general knowledge on science and technology tools on sustainable industrial chemistry and technical skills in specific thematic fields.

SINCHEM Educational Programme Person-based educational activities at HOME and HOST universities. Common activities: 1. SINCHEM Summer Schools, 2. Specific activities dedicated to promote personal awareness and capacities: a) technical presentation skills, b) capacity to write scientific articles or project proposal, c) team working, d) management of research projects, including aspects related to budget 3. Professional skills programme, in collaboration with companies, dedicated to improve the capacity of the students in transferring idea to innovation: intellectual capital management, valorization, commercialization and entrepreneurship, IPR and data protection, writing a business plan.

CONTRACTS AND FUNDS SINCHEM - Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctorate Programmes Sinchem Consortium is selected for 5 consecutive editions (7 years) Number of fellowships: 6-9 candidates for each edition Framework Partnership Agreement (2013-0037): contract between EACEA and the Coordinator (5 editions) with general principles and duration Specific Partnership Agreement: annualy signed by EACEA and the coordinator. Regulates the financial flow of each edition

CONTRACTS AND FUNDS SINCHEM - Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctorate Programmes Funds: SINCHEM network budget, under the supervision of Coordination Board = 50.000 per edition + candidates funds EMJD agreement: consortium agreement to be submitted to EACEA together with the first selection of students (February 2013) Doctoral Candidate Agreement: to be realised for each student. To be presented to EACEA, as a model, by February 2013

FUNDS FOR CANDIDATES SINCHEM - Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctorate Programmes

2014 EACEA Fellowships The number of EMJD fellowships available will be communicated from EACEA to SINCHEM Consortium only after the selection procedure. Indicatively: Number 5 for Category A (third-country) applicants. Number 1 for Category A applicants who come from Turkey or Western Balkan Countries (i.e. Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kosovo under UNSC Resolution 1244/99, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia); Number 3 for Category B (European + 12 months role) applicants Category B: also student resident for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years in EU countries. Exception candidates with Erasmus Mundus masters.

Candidates selection process SELECTION must ensure the recruitment of the best candidates. Doctoral candidates must be ranked in order of merit following the principle of transparency and equal treatment and respect the geographical balance criterion (2 max each country). All applicants apply to the Bologna University (hosting the SINCHEM secretariat). Eligibility Criteria are assessed prior to the evaluation by the SINCHEM secretariat. Applicants not yet graduated at the time of the application deadline, but expecting to graduate in time, can also apply for admission, under the deferring condition of a timely graduation. Evaluation in two steps : 1. Technical Evaluation of documents 1 st ranked selection lists 2. Interview: (through Skype or phone) for the top candidates Final selection results for Category A, B and Western Balkan Countries
