Get paid to have a great experience of work Smart Futures offers you an opportunity to have a great paid experience of work It is a ten month programme which starts with paid work experience in the summer or Easter * An EY Foundation mentor will support you throughout the programme to advise you on one of the biggest career choices you will make the first step in your working life You will be invited to a series of alumni events throughout your final year at school You will gain a wide variety of transferable skills to give you a head start in your career On successful completion of the programme you will gain a Level 2 CMI (Chartered Management Institution) qualification in Team Leading. This is an adult management qualification setting you apart from your peers * Easter programme only available in London and Manchester Smart Futures is a programme that recognises the importance of investing in the futures of the next generation: giving bright and ambitious young people like me a chance to shine regardless of their background. 1 Rosie, London alumnus

Smart Futures is for people like adam nicola Adam London alumnus I didn t think I d have a chance [getting onto Smart Futures] a boy from a state comprehensive in East London. How wrong could I have been? Nicola Yorkshire alumnus I would definitely recommend this programme to anyone thinking of applying. It s great for your CV, gives you an insight into the business world and develops skills you can use anywhere. Akhil Edinburgh alumnus It has been wonderful and I would urge anyone who is even remotely thinking about doing the programme to sign up. It is great fun and you will learn invaluable skills. Katherine London alumnus akhil katherine Throughout the programme I was given opportunities to think outside the box, lead, learn and network and most importantly how to transfer these valuable skills into the workplace. Find out more about the experiences of other young people in the programme by searching EY Foundation on YouTube. 2

The Smart Futures experience Your paid work experience is packed with interactive sessions and opportunities to work with lots of different types of businesses. You will acquire new skills, learn different ways of doing things and broaden your horizons. Whether you re delivering a pitch to senior business leaders or helping a client with a difficult problem, you ll be taking the lead in real life situations. It starts here... The experience kicks off with an induction event which is designed to be a fun, team building activity so you can get to know the people you ll be working with. You ll then spend up to two weeks taking part in interactive workshops and working on sample case studies about genuine issues businesses face it will be down to you and your team to research the company, analyse the facts, identify the problems and propose solutions. This is followed by your business experience week - a one week placement where you gain hands on work experience. Smart Futures will give you some key skills that are essential in the work place: Problem solving Effective networking Presentation skills Team leading Communication Building positive relationships 09:30-16:30 You will be working from every weekday 3

Business experience week 4 This is when all the business skills you have learnt on the programme are really put to the test. You will spend a week working with a team getting hands on experience in business. You will be doing the same work as the employees of that organisation, from pitching to clients, to creating a marketing campaign or helping an entrepreneur with a business issue they may face. Students tell us this is the best part of the entire programme! The week working in a business has been an amazing experience. I have been able to learn skills while meeting some world renowned firms. Akhil, Edinburgh alumnus Learning how a business actually works, was a key reason for me in applying to the programme and for me this was definitely the best part. Sachvir, Birmingham alumnus

Your graduation ceremony You will round off the work experience at a graduation ceremony with your new friends and colleagues to celebrate all of your amazing achievements. You will also be invited to a series of Smart Futures alumni events during your final year at school to further your experience and networks. These events range from Q&A s with leading CEOs, to helping out at a local food bank. 5

Wait, there s more Your Smart Futures experience does not end there meet the mentors During your work experience you ll be introduced to your EY Foundation mentor. They will provide you with support and encouragement throughout your final school year, as you make decisions about higher education and your career. 6 nick Seeing Alfie transform from someone unsure about his future and unaware of options available to him as a sixth former, in to someone who gained a place on EY s School Leaver Programme through his own hard work, has been amazing. I ve got a lot out of the experience too. Knowing that I have had a positive influence on Alfie s development makes me feel incredible proud. devyani I met Jordan for an hour every month; discussing career choices and options post A Level. He is now at the University of Southampton studying Biochemistry. Jordan says having a mentor gave him an objective sounding board to make tough decisions and helped him think differently about his options.
