Participating Committees A5001: CONDUCT OF RESEARCH Chair: Bill Carr Scope: To increase the quality and effectiveness of research through encouragement of better planning, management, and operational practices by organizations engaged in transportation research programs and to assist the Transportation Research Board in its role of stimulating research and serving as a national clearinghouse for research activities. A5012: TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER Chair: Cheri Trenda Scope: This committee is concerned with information exchange and research on the processes and methods for technology transfer, and assisting the Transportation Research Board and other TRB committees in their role as an agent for technology transfer. A5017: LIBRARY AND INFORMATION SCIENCE FOR TRANSPORTATION Chair: Jeanne Thomas Scope: This committee serves as a forum for transportation librarians and the transportation research community on developments in information science and their applicability to transportation. The committee facilitates diffusion of national library and information science innovations throughout the transportation community by monitoring the use of new resources and tools in the transportation arena, defining critical research and training issues relating to their implementation, and promoting the benefits of these capabilities.

TRB MID-YEAR COMMITTEE MEETINGS September 11-12, 2000 Woods Hole, MA This year s TRB Mid-Year Committee Meetings will bring together three committees with related interests. A5001, Conduct of Research, is dedicated to increasing the quality and effectiveness of research through encouragement of better planning, management and operational practices. A5012, Technology Transfer, is involved in strengthening research implementation and technology transfer processes and methodology. A5017, Library and Information Science for Transportation, serves as a forum for transportation librarians and the transportation research community on developments in information science and their applicability to transportation. The purpose of the joint mid-year meeting is to understand each of these committees purpose and objectives, define common issues, and to identify joint activities to further develop transportation information, research and technology transfer. Specific topics for committee discussions are currently being developed and will be distributed one month before the meeting. MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 12 AGENDA 7:30 a.m. - 8:30 a.m. Breakfast and Registration 8:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. Opening Session: Issues in Transportation Information, Research and Technology Transfer Each Chair will start this panel discussion by presenting issues relevant to their committee and suggest areas of common interest to the three committees, and how these committees can collectively serve the broader TRB committee structure and the transportation community. The audience will join this deliberation for the remainder of the session. 10:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. Break and Conversation 10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Committee Breakout Sessions Each committee will discuss the potential joint new and current joint activities further and develop agreement on priority for implementation. 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. General Session: Committee Breakout Reports This session will begin with committee reports, followed by refinement of approaches to joint activities. High priority activities will be assigned to committees for development of implementation plans.

Green Airport in Providence, RI, and (2) Logan Airport in Boston, MA. Car rentals are available at both airports. If you are planning to rent a car, Providence is probably the most convenient airport to use; it is easy to access, and it is a 1.5 hour drive to the Woods Hole/Falmouth area. Driving directions from the airports to the hotel are attached. Bus service is also available to Falmouth from T.R. Green or Logan airports through Bonanza Bus Lines, Inc. (800-556-3815). The nearest local airport is Barnstable Airport in Hyannis, MA, which is approximately 25 miles from the Woods Hole/Falmouth area. Several airlines operate air shuttle service from Boston to Barnstable

Airport, and AMTRAK offers direct service from New York City to the airport. Car rentals are available during normal business hours. The Woods Hole Center operates a shuttle service to and from the hotel to the Center. Arrangements must be made in advance with the receptionist at the Center by calling at least 30 minutes prior to your desired time of pickup or departure (508-548-3760 or 3761). REGISTRATION The registration fee for the meetings is $140 and includes the following: Monday, September 11 Breakfast, lunch, morning and afternoon breaks, coffee service, beer and wine reception and New England Clam Bake dinner Tuesday, September 12 Breakfast, lunch, morning and afternoon breaks, coffee service Spouses may attend the reception and New England Clambake for an additional charge of $42.30.
