APIC Election 2017 Results

President-Elect Janet Haas is the Director of Epidemiology at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City. She has served in 6 academic medical centers, with responsibility for a community hospital, ambulatory surgery centers, behavioral health and correctional health units, outpatient care settings and a free-standing emergency department. This range of experiences has provided her with many opportunities to promote the vision of healthcare without infection. Dr. Haas is a member of the APIC Board of Directors, where she has served on the performance outcomes, policy, and compensation committees, and as the liaison to CBIC. She is an associate editor of AJIC and a member of the New York State HAI Reporting Advisory Board. She was the inaugural chair of the APIC Professional Development Committee, and a member of the Research Council. She has conducted infection prevention research and is the author of numerous book chapters and peer reviewed publications, including contributing to APIC s competency model. Janet Haas, PhD, RN, CIC, FSHEA, FAPIC Director, Epidemiology Lenox Hill Hospital New York City, New York Dr. Haas was selected as the SHEA advanced practice IP and as a National Library of Medicine Bioinformatics Fellow in 2008. She has been an advisor and faculty for APIC s Epidemiology, and Information Technology online learning labs, and has lectured frequently on infection prevention topics.

Treasurer Sharon Williamson, BSMT(ASCP)SM, CIC, FAPIC Infection Prevention Program Director Texas Health Resources Arlington, TX Sharon Williamson has been employed by Texas Health Resources for the past 27 years and is currently the Infection Prevention Director for the healthcare system, including 14 acute care facilities. Prior to her current role, Sharon held several positions at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas, including Infection Prevention Manager, Infection Prevention Surveillance Coordinator, Laboratory Quality and Safety Coordinator, and staff Microbiologist. Ms. Williamson received the Fellow of APIC designation in 2016. In 2013, she was recognized as a Who s Who in Infection Prevention by Infection Control Today. Sharon served on the APIC Board of Directors from 2012-2013 and as Secretary for the Dallas/Ft. Worth APIC Chapter in 2015. She currently serves on the APIC Education Committee and EPI Intensive Revision Team. She has served as a consultant for APIC Consulting Services, Inc. as well as an APIC faculty member, teaching APIC Academy and EPI Intensive courses.

Board of Directors At-Large Director Tania N. Bubb, PhD, RN, CIC, FAPIC Director Infection Prevention and Control Westchester Medical Center Valhalla, New York Tania N. Bubb is the Director of Infection Prevention and Control at Westchester Medical Center, the flagship of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network, in Valhalla, NY. Dr. Bubb has been an infection preventionist (IP) for 10 years at major academic medical centers of varying inpatient and outpatient specialties, providing her with the skills, critical thinking and leadership abilities necessary to perform optimally within the field of infection prevention and control, as well as promote and maintain patient safety initiatives. Dr. Bubb has served on the board of directors of her local APIC chapter as the membership chair. She has served as chair of APIC s Professional Development Committee, serves on the editorial review Board of the American Journal of Infection Control and is a member of APIC s editorial panel. Dr. Bubb has spoken and presented at local and national APIC chapter events as well as other local and regional conferences and has authored publications related to the field of infection prevention and control.

Board of Directors At-Large Director Thomas C. Button is currently Director of Infection Prevention & Control at Children s Mercy Hospital, Kansas City, Missouri. Children s Mercy Hospital includes seven infection preventionists and one project specialist to provide infection prevention service to two acute care campuses and extensive emergency and ambulatory care services. Tom has also served as Corporate Director at Truman Medical Centers in Kansas City, Missouri, where a full onethird of uncompensated healthcare in the community is provided. He relocated from Dallas where he was Director Infection Prevention & Control at Parkland Health & Hospital System inclusive of Parkland Memorial Hospital, Parkland Women s Health Centers, Dallas County Jail Services, and Parklands Community Oriented Primary Care Centers. Thomas C. Button, RN, BSN, NE-BC, CIC, FAPIC Director of Infection Prevention & Control Children's Mercy Hospital Kansas City, Missouri Mr. Button s accomplishments in infection prevention include work with the Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone fall of 2014, abstracts, articles or storyboards on VAP, outbreak investigation, SSI, environmental cleaning and hand hygiene. He has been a speaker at APIC Dallas Fort Worth chapter, Greater Kansas City APIC chapter and Texas Society of Infection Control & Prevention. He has been active with APIC at both national and local levels.

Board of Directors At-Large Director Irena L. Kenneley, PhD, APHRN-BC, CIC, FAPIC Associate Professor Case Western Reserve University Cleveland, Ohio Irena Kenneley is an Associate Professor and Faculty Development Director at the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing, Case Western Reserve University. The recipient of numerous awards, Dr. Kenneley is one of the few researchers who deeply understands potential complicationsand rigor necessary to conduct infection prevention research on healthcare associated infections with real world results. She was a past chair of APIC s Research Committee, member of the Communications Committee, and has been the Home Care section chair. She is a member of many other professional organizations including Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society, the Midwest Nursing Research Society, National League of Nurses and the Ohio Nurses Association and of course APIC. Dr. Kenneley s expertise and her sustained scholarly efforts in infection prevention have been recognized and patient safety efforts have been improved in a variety ofways. First, she has been asked to serve ona number of important patient safety special projects, the AHRQ Patient Safety Initiative; CAUTI Prevention in LTC and as a consultant for the Ohio Department of Health/CDC/ APIC: Ebola Readiness for Treatment and Access Hospitals in Ohio. These activities are evidence of the contributions and ongoing effort to provide both process and outcome data to improve infection prevention efforts and ultimately patient safety.

Board of Directors At-Large Director Barbara Smith is a Nurse Epidemiologist at the Mount Sinai Health Systems at the St. Luke s and West campuses in New York City. She has participated in multiple local and New York State collaboratives to reduce HAIs. She is the infection prevention consultant for several independent ambulatory practices including endoscopy and dialysis centers in the metropolitan region. She served on the MRSA Advisory Board for IPRO and serves on the Infection Prevention Steering Committee of Greater New York Hospital Association. In conjunction with the GNYHA, she developed and implemented an Infection Prevention Coaches Training Program offered to acute and long term care facilities throughout the NY metropolitan area. Barbara Smith, RN, BSN, MPA, CIC, FAPIC Nurse Epidemiologist Mount Sinai Health Systems at the St. Luke s and West Campuses New York City, New York Ms. Smith is a member of the APIC communications committee. She served as the President of the Greater New York APIC chapter in 2009 and is currently the membership chair. She is on the chapter s planning committee for the annual conference with primary responsibility for preparation of the continuing education application. She serves on the Advisory Board of Medical Reserve Corps of New York City and the American Council for St. Luke s International Hospital in Tokyo.

Board of Directors External Director Dale W. Bratzler, DO, MPH, MACOI, FIDSA Professor, Department of Health Administration and Policy Associate Dean, College of Public Health and Professor, College of Medicine, University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center Chief Quality Officer, OU Physicians Group - Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Dale W. Bratzler, has had a long history of working in the field of healthcare quality measurement, reporting, and improvement. He has worked in the field of quality measurement in healthcare settings (both inpatient and ambulatory) as a contractor to the Medicare program working closely with many of the government agencies and professional and trade associations that APIC provides expertise to including Health and Human Services, CDC, IDSA, National Quality Forum, the Federal Office for Rural Health Policy and others. He has published extensively on these topics and lead or participated in the development of several national guidelines on SSI prevention. In his current role at Oklahoma University, he teaches students in the College of Public Health and in the College of Medicine. He oversees ambulatory quality measurement and improvement activities for OU Physicians which is the faculty practice for the College of Medicine. He also actively serves on the Oklahoma University Medical System antibiotic stewardship committee.

Nominating & Awards Committee Michelle N. Farber is currently the infection preventionist at Riverwood Health Care Center in Aitkin, Minnesota. Her previous infection prevention and control manager positions were held at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota and Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids, Minnesota. She has been working in infection prevention for more than 35 years, in both long-term care and acute care facilities. A long-time APIC member and leader, Michelle has served as APIC President, chaired APIC s Annual Conference Committee and APIC Scientific Abstract Selection Committee, as well as served as liaison to the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc. (CBIC). Michelle has also worked on numerous other committees, including APIC s Infection Preventionist Competency Model Task Force, Audit, Finance, Communications, and Education committees, the Staffing Task Force, and the Ambulatory Care and Behavioral Health sections. Michelle N. Farber, RN, CIC Infection Preventionist Riverwood Health Care Center Aitkin, Minnesota Michelle s work with her local chapter, APIC Minnesota chapter #18, has been extensive. She served as president, treasurer and membership director, chaired its conference committee, and has been a member of its governmental affairs, grants and funding, and education committees. She is currently a member of Minnesota s Health Care Associated Infections Prevention Advisory Committee and special project advisor for developing the APIC Consulting Program of Distinction.

Nominating & Awards Committee Elizabeth Monsees is the Clinical Safety Officer at Children's Mercy - Kansas City. She is transitioning to a new role at CM focused on infection prevention research, including antimicrobial stewardship programs (ASP). As a PhD student at the University of Missouri Columbia, Ms. Monsees is studying strategies to understand and enhance registered nurse involvement in ASP. She facilitates hospital cause analysis processes, develops measures to evaluate institutional performance, and supports efforts to improve system reliability. In addition to facilitating a variety of patient safety initiatives, she developed and led an Error-Prevention course for over 8000 employees. In 2012, she taught an infection prevention and control course in Cairo, Egypt which fueled her interests in global health. In 2015, she developed and taught an APIC course in Tel Aviv, Israel. Elizabeth Monsees, MSN, MBA, RN, CIC, FAPIC Infection Control Practitioner Children's Mercy Hospitals & Clinics Kansas City, Missouri Ms. Monsees co-authored the APIC Guide for Preventing Central Line- Associated Bloodstream Infections and was an author of the Patient Safety and Quality Concepts chapters included in the APIC Text, 4th Edition and the Fundamental Statistics & Epidemiology in Infection Prevention. Elizabeth has served at her local chapter in various positions, including President. She served on the APIC Education Committee and was Vice Chair of the Communications Committee. Elizabeth is faculty for the Education for the Prevention of Infection (EPI 102) course and the Advance Practice Workshops, and will speak on infection prevention in Cairo, Egypt in 2016. She actively participates on the American Nurses Association and Centers for Disease Control Antimicrobial Stewardship Working Group.
