Andre Douglas Dear Students, Parents, and Guardians: The Louisville Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. is accepting applications for our Annual Student of the Year Competition Award for 2013 High School Males who are juniors or seniors. Please see the attached application materials for details. The application deadline is February 21, 2013. All applications will be reviewed and graded at that time and ranked in order. The top three student application packets will be awarded an opportunity to interview with the Louisville Alumni Chapter in order for our members to vote on the winner of our 2013 Student of the Year. Subsequently, we will also choose a runner up to the overall winner. The competition will be held on Friday, March 1, 2013 at the University of Louisville - Student Activity Center. The winner of the competition will receive a one-time $500 Student of the Year Award and is expected to compete at the (Regional) Student of the Year Competition in Tupelo, MS during the first weekend of April 2013. The competition in Tupelo, MS will give the student another chance to earn more award monies. The winner will receive a $250 stipend for travel expenses to Tupelo, MS. We will also award the runner up with a one-time $250 award. Please take this time to review the application and we encourage your high school junior or senior to apply. Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated Louisville (KY) Alumni Chapter Guidelines for the 2013 Student of the Year Competition QUALIFICATIONS FOR ELIGIBILITY Qualified applicants must: Be a high school junior or a high school senior male who will graduatein the spring of current school year. Must be able to exhibit their skills and abilities. Have a grade point average of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale. Be a minority male. Kappa League members are encouraged to participate in the competition; the contest however, is not limited to Kappa Leaguers. AREAS TO BE JUDGED Awareness: Awareness of events in all aspects of life: politics, education, world affairs, etc. Career Preparation: As evidenced by your personal statement and academic preparation. Poise/ Grooming: Introduce self and give a brief statement of his philosophy of life. Dress Business Attire (Suit/Tie) Scholarship: Grade point average will be determined by official transcript. School/Community Activities: A listing of school and community activities, organizational memberships, and offices held, etc. Talent Competition and Questioning and Answering Period:Verbal, musical, and visual presentations that will exhibit the skills and abilities of the Contestant. Q/A: Each student will select a question and present answer when asked. The contestant must furnish musical instruments and materials and their own piano accompanist. APPLICATION PROCESS Typed application. The application must be signed in blue ink. Official high school transcript (including SAT/ACT test scores) Completed Counselor Evaluation Form (included) Two Professional Recommendations. Letters from teachers, mentors, or community/religious leaders are recommended. Letters should be placed in a sealed envelope and returned to the applicant for mailing with the application packet.
