Gov. Cyrus Habib is our guest speaker, really this time (we think). If you have not heard Lt Gov Habib speak you are in for a treat. You may remember that Lt Gov Habib spoke at the USS Washington Commissioning. Lt. Gov. Cyrus Habib was elected in 2016, becoming the state s first Chief Opportunity Officer. In this capacity, Habib works daily for all Washingtonians, striving to expand access to opportunity and create a more prosperous Washington for all. The position of Lieutenant Governor is unlike any other in Washington state government because its duties fall both within the Executive and Legislative branches. The Lieutenant Governor becomes the Acting Governor whenever the Governor leaves the state or is otherwise unable to serve. Lt. Gov. Habib also presides over the State Senate. Our social hour will begin at 11AM with the meeting starting at 11:45 in the Bangor Conference Center, Trident Ballroom, Naval Base Kitsap, Bangor. For lunch registration, please call Realty Station at 360 377-5699 as soon as possible. For members without base access, processing can take some days. We will take that job on if you call. When registering provide your name as it appears on your Driver's License and date

President's Corner Steve Westover Hope this change in the weather is finding you well. The good news is that the days are getting longer and we are getting warmer weather. The bad news is its allergy season, with all the eyes watering and noses running. Armed Forces Weekend was an unqualified success. The week started on Thursday with a senior enlisted salmon barbeque at the Kiana Lodge. It is an opportunity for your Navy League to say Thank You to the hard working senior enlisted, the backbone of the Sea Services. On Saturday, was the Armed Forces Day parade followed by the Gala. Many thanks to RADM Mayes for being the Gala guest speaker. Thanks also to Congressman Kilmer for to joining us and speaking. There were several comments that the food was excellent; some of the best they have ever had at the Admiral Theater. None of this would have been possible without the hard work of our Armed Forces week Chairman, Larry Salter and committee members Alan Beam, Tim Katona and Helen Miller. We held a welcome home reception for the USS Bremerton (SSN-698) and her crew at the beginning of May. The USS Bremerton has arrived at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for inactivation and decommissioning. Past Council President Alan Beam and former Bremerton city mayor Patty Lent are chairing a committee to permanently honor the boat as she is recycled. The June luncheon should not to be missed. Lt Gov Habib will be our speaker. He represented the State of Washington at the commissioning of the USS Washington (SSN-787) last fall. Steve Our Place Pub and Eatery - Community Affiliate Our President, Steve Westover, and other members of our Navy League Board of Directors present the Community Affiliate Plaque to Our Place Pub and Eatery in recognition of their support to our Council. Our Place Pub and Eatery is at 9322 Silverdale Way NW in Silverdale If you've not been there or havn't been there lately, you should give it a try and thank them for their support to Navy League. All of our Community Affiliates are listed on the front page of this and every newsletter. 2

Senior Enlisted Barbecue - May 17th On Thursday of Armed Forces week Navy League hosted a barbecue for Senior Enlisted at Kiana Lodge. It's one of the many ways Navy League supports our Maritime Services. The few speeches were short and appropriately positive. The weather was perfect, the setting beautiful and, by all accounts, the food was awesome. 3

Armed Forces Day Parade - May 19th Bremerton, Washington hosted its 71st annual Armed Forces Day Parade. It is the largest and longest running Armed Forces Day Parade in the country. Our Navy League is a supporter and participant in the week-long celebration of our Armed Forces. With USS Bremerton (SSN 698), now in the Bremerton Shipyard, her crew was, of course, featured with her Commanding officer, CDR Travis Zettel, hitching a ride in a Ferrari followed by the Submarine's crew. 4

Navy League Gala - May 19th Our Navy League Council, once again, hosted a Gala on the Saturday of Armed Forces Week. It was, as is customary, at the Admiral Theater, a beautiful and perfect venue. Admiral Mayes was the featured speaker. He and Congressman Kilmer gave interesting and inspiring speeches. There were Individual awards and command recognition as well but the highlights were the camaraderie, the support for our Armed Forces demonstrated by the attendees and sponsors, the excellent entertainment and the fabulous meal.
