IIT Bombay National Centre for Photovoltaic Research and Education Industry Affiliate Programme
Introduction The Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission is one of the most important technologicalcum-societal initiatives announced by the government in recent years. It has the potential of simultaneously increasing the awareness and use of clean energy, of transforming life in rural areas, and also kick-starting a major new industry segment. As part of this mission, the National Centre for Photovoltaic Research and Education (NCPRE) was set up by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy at IIT Bombay in 2010. The NCPRE is a major national resource in the Photovoltaic (PV) area, both for research and education. One of the goals for NCPRE is to have a strong interaction with the solar PV and allied industries in India through an outreach initiative. Towards this goal, NCPRE is launching the Industry Affiliate Programme.
Activities at NCPRE NCPRE has research activities in the areas of silicon solar cells new materials and devices for solar cells energy storage power electronics characterization modelling and simulation solar systems and products technology assessment For details of all NCPRE activities, please see http://www.ncpre.iitb.ac.in Highlights of the Industry Affiliate Programme The Industry Affiliate Programme offers many benefits to industry partners such as: A platform for effective collaboration between academia and industry. Use of facilities set up by NCPRE at a reduced rate. Free access to continuing education programmes for the industry. Access to annual Industrial Affiliate Day Hand-holding and knowledge dissemination for companies in PV. Free use of IIT Bombay Library for reference as a Corporate Member. Access to its Masters and Doctoral theses in PV and related areas. Ability to sponsor post-graduate students scholarships and project (at cost).
Who can become a Member? Membership is by a company, an organization, or a trade association. The IAP will have a two-tiered structure, with members in two categories. 1. Charter/Full Member 2. Associate Member To become an Industry Affiliate of NCPRE, a company will have to pay an annual membership fee and sign an MoU with IIT Bombay. Structure of the Industry Affiliate Programme The functioning of NCPRE s Industry Affiliate Program will be overseen by a Governing Council, consisting of experts in PV. The Governing Council will be able to suggest areas of research for NCPRE (consistent with the deliverables projected to MNRE). An Executive Committee, appointed by the Council, will make recommendations on fees, benefits, areas of research, etc. to IAP.
Benefits of Membership The membership benefits are listed below for both Full Members as well as Associate Members: Sr. No. Member Benefits 1. Access to annual NCPRE Industry Affiliate Day, where recent work at NCPRE will be shared 2. Use of facilities set up at NCPRE on a reduced rate basis 3. Free use of IIT Bombay Library for reference as Corporate Member 4. Access to Masters and Doctoral theses in PV and related areas 5. Soft copy of the bi-annual NCPRE Industry Affiliate Update 6. Waiver of registration fees for PV short course/workshops 7. Acknowledgement as an NCPRE Affiliate on NCPRE website 8. Ability to sponsor post graduate students scholarships and project (at cost) 9. Eligible to nominate one expert on the Governing Council Charter Member Associate Member 5 persons 2 persons 4 persons 2 persons Membership Fee Structure The fee would be Rs. 3 lakhs plus service tax annually for the Charter/Full Member, and Rs 1 lakh plus service tax annually for an Associate Member. All companies must sign up for a 3-year period, though fees would be payable annually.
