The preserve s mission includes ecological and wildlife protection, public education and public access. On the tour you will visit the Cultural and Natural History Center, managed by UF/IFAS Extension Pinellas County, that serves as a public classroom and museum for marine science, archaeology, nature based, and sustainability programs. You will also enjoy an interpretive hike on the boardwalk and a guided canoe paddle through the mangrove tunnels. This program is open to participants 10 years and older, some paddling experience required. Youth 10 17 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. Please wear closed toed shoes that can get went, bring sun protection and a reusable water bottle.
USF Clam Bayou Preserve Education Center Tour and Kayak Paddle Lead Tour Guide: Kara Radabaugh Meeting Location: 4240 35 th Avenue South, St. Petersburg, FL 33711 Tour Time: 8:30am 10:30am Clam Bayou Preserve is a brackish water estuary in an urban setting. Clam Bayou is bordered by Gulfport to the west and the city of St. Petersburg to the east. While the bayou still faces management challenges, it is undeniably an environmental restoration success story. Today, visitors can experience from the shores of a city park, biking over it on the Skyway bike trail or paddling. On this tour, you will paddle the preserve and also visit the living classroom that is the USF Clam Bayou Education Center. This tour is for adults and youth ages 10 and up. Some paddling experience required. Youth 10 17 years of age must be accompanied by an adult and a singed liability release is required for all paddleers. Limit 14 guests. Comfort measures you should bring for this fieldtrip are a refillable water bottle, hat, closetoed water shoes, sunscreen, light weight long sleeve shirt if prone to sunburn, towel, swim gear (optional), change of clothes, and a sense of paddling adventure. However, the maintenance of our beaches comes with a cost. On this tour you will visit Upham Beach on the northernmost end of St. Petersburg Beach. On this field trip you will learn about economic, regulatory, and political factors associated to beach renourishment. You will learn about innovative technology that is being applied to the Upham Stabilization Project. This program is open to all ages. Bring your beach gear if you want to stay and relax and see why Pinellas Beaches are some of the best in the country! Canterbury Cup Catch and Release Tournament Lead Tour Guides: Jenna LoDico MS 06 and Laura Fauver MS 05 science teachers at Canterbury School of Florida Fee: $80 for adults and $25 for children (fundraiser, prizes, after party with food and beverages) Meeting Location & Time: Website for registration will be opened soon Each year, the Canterbury Marine Studies department hosts a family friendly Catch n Release Fishing Tournament fundraiser to help support the Marine Studies program conservation efforts that benefit our local Tampa Bay environment some of which include marsh grass restoration, dolphin research, coastal cleanups, and sport fish stock enhancement. Proceeds from the USF College of Marine Science 50 th will benefit the Dean's Innovation Fund (260033). Fund purpose: to create, sustain or grow innovative academic research programs within the college that directly impact the quality of the educational experience, the impact of the college s research portfolio and the value of public, private partnerships.
