Respiratory Care Conference Thursday, Sept. 22, 2016 Leonard and Madlyn Abramson Pediatric Research Center at The Children s Hospital of Philadelphia www.chop.edu/cme

Course Information Course Overview This live activity will offer continuing education focused on neonatal and pediatric patients and includes topics in both patient safety and medical ethics. All lectures may be used to fulfill the NBRC s five-year continuing education requirement for the NPS credential as well as towards the Pennsylvania state RT licensing requirement. Participants will gain knowledge of the respiratory therapist role on the Critical Care Transport Team. Current hot topics will be brought to the forefront as we discuss how hyperinsufflation can improve respiratory mechanics in neuromuscular disease and new treatment options for patients with abnormal pulmonary lymphatic flow. A case study and lecture format will be used to explore metrics for judging the success or failure of weaning from mechanical ventilation and identifying potential therapies for infants with obstructive sleep apnea. The ethics lecture will present case studies from the delivery room, including respiratory management of an infant born at the limits of viability. During the patient safety lecture, participants will appreciate the scope and magnitude of respiratory therapy-related device skin injury. General Information The conference will be held on the first floor of the Leonard and Madlyn Abramson Pediatric Research Center on the campus of The Children s Hospital of Philadelphia. The registration fee is $75 for American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) members and $85 for non- AARC members. The registration fee includes continental breakfast, breaks, lunch, parking and syllabus material. Certification Statement Pending approval from AARC, this conference will be eligible for 7.0 Continuing Respiratory Care Education contact hours. Learning Objectives At the completion of the workshop participants should be able to: 1. Illustrate practices aimed to reduce incidence of respiratory therapy-related device skin injury 2. Discuss advance training for respiratory therapists on the Critical Care Transport Team 3. Understand the impact of progressive respiratory muscle weakness on respiratory mechanics 4. Review the infant groups that are high-risk for obstructive apnea 5. Discuss different weaning strategies and their pros and cons 6. Describe delivery room palliative care of a term infant with congenital anomalies 7. Identify diseases involving abnormal pulmonary lymphatic flow Hotel Information A block of rooms has been reserved at the Sheraton University City, located three blocks from the Hospital. The group rate is $172 single or double occupancy plus a 15.2 percent room tax. Participants must make their own hotel reservations by calling the Sheraton directly at 215-387-8000. Please mention the name of the conference when making your reservation. The special room rate will be available until Aug. 21, 2016. After that date, reservations will be accepted on a space and rate availability basis.
