DEPAUL UNIVERSITY 2 DEPAUL COMMUNITY SERVICE ASSOCIATION (DCSA) Community. Service. Faith. Advocacy. Social Justice. Awareness. Solidarity. Dialogue. Each week, over 250 students travel across the city of Chicago to serve in the name of St. Vincent de Paul and St. Louise de Marillac, answering the Vincentian question What must be done? in the face of injustice. You can get involved in DCSA s 20 student organizations by serving as a youth mentor, feeding the hungry and homeless, tutoring adults in computers or English, spending time with the elderly or veterans, raising awareness about issues and much more! Join a DCSA student organization and become a part of a community of peers seeking to make a difference in the city and the world. CHECK OUT THESE STUDENT REFLECTIONS! Being involved in DCSA I have learned that social justice is about political activism and community service going hand in hand. They go together. I feel very fulfilled at our site because I get just as much or more than the kids even get. I think that comes from the reflection. I have been able to apply more purpose to the other things that I do. I realize that the things that I learn in the classroom can be used at the site. 1. Find the organization for you (pg. 3) DCSA has helped me better understand the diversity of Chicago. Just on the van ride from Lincoln Park to West Humboldt Park, we pass through so many different neighborhoods. I think it s also given me the opportunity to interact with people from those different neighborhoods, so not just associating myself with people that are all like myself but going into those different neighborhoods and actually talking to them. GET INVOLVED! 2. Contact the Senior Team. 3. Join weekly service and bring a friend!

EDUCATION & DEVELOPMENT GRANT FOR EMPLOYABILITY (EDGE) Designed to award incoming first-year students with demonstrated financial need a community of development and support, EDGE was implemented to engage students in a variety of modules (workshops, events, visits, research, etc.) intended to develop workplace competencies, money management knowledge and skills, and a connection to university resources. EDGE STUDENTS: Gain experience and develop self-knowledge about jobs and careers Develop important money management skills Participate in meaningful, fun projects that contribute to the university overall Become ready for next step in the employment process Recruit fellow first-year students in University Ministry s faith, service, and justice opportunities. Develop meaningful relationships with their respective community partners and deepen their understanding of what it means to serve others in a Vincentian way Work closely with the Ministry Coordinator for Service Days, and two upper class EDGE Mentors STUDENT REFLECTION: For me, one of the residents that I really enjoyed getting to know is named Mary. Mary is 93 years old and still has a passion for dancing. She would dance to any music we played all day long. She loved to sing and dance. A favorite quote she always told the volunteers was: You re a good kid and a peachy dancer. EDGE Volunteer at Little Sisters of the Poor A POLITICAL ACTIVISM VIA ENGAGEMENT (PAVE) E PAVE serves the DePaul activist community in the following ways: Reflection: Providing a safe space for dialogue and personal reflection at quarterly Round Table events. Collaboration: Fostering community and building coalitions between student activist organizations by establishing connections of communication and a space to meet each other at the Round Tables. Resources: Providing an Activist Student Toolkit with practical information on community organizing and methods for creating change at DePaul and beyond. Advocacy: We hope to bridge the gap between direct service and activism, to promote a broader understanding of justice. If you or someone you know is involved in an activist student organization, please contact us at depaulpave@gmail. com or contact us through the PAVE OrgSync page. Please like our Facebook page PAVE at DePaul for updated information on what we re doing, and feel free to post any activism or justice related events on the page as well!

DEPAUL UNIVERSITY 5 SERVICE DAYS Service Days at DePaul University provide a unique experience of service, reflection, and celebration in the Vincentian spirit on a larger scale. The biggest service day of the year at DePaul is Vincentian Service Day. The goal of Vincentian Service Day is to bring together diverse members of the DePaul community, spanning all students (undergraduate & graduate), faculty, staff, and administrators, as well as to build long-term, mutually beneficial, and sustainable relationships with community partners working on a wide-range of impact issues across the Chicago metro region. SERVICE REFLECTION COMMUNITY Over 1,300 DePaul Students + 80 service projects across Chicago. My greatest Vincentian accomplishment this year was taking part in Vincentian Service Day. This was my first year participating in this event and it was very powerful to experience in this university-wide day of service. Being a part of this very special day was amazing. -DePaul Undergraduate Student Reflection FOR MORE INFO CONTACT: serviceday@depaul.edu TWITTER: DPU_ServiceDay JOIN US FOR VINCENTIAN SERVICE DAY 2016 SATURDAY, MAY 7th!
