We will be hosting the event and staffing the Hospitality Room on Friday night as well as running the registration desk. It is our hope to have a great many 260 members attend one or more of the meetings. More information is forthcoming in the March issue of the Grinder. Membership Renewals Rich Carrera, Junior Vice Commandant, wants to remind everyone whose dues cycle has arrived to get their $28 renewal in to George Orfanedes or him right away. The following members yearly membership for 2016-2017 are up for renewal. If you have already paid we thank you for so doing. Delbert Fentress, Bob Shelton, Grady Patton, and Paul Talbert. February Program We are pleased to have as our speaker Ms. Andrea Lamonds. She works for the NC Division of Veterans Affairs thru Guilford County government. Her topic is Service Connected Disability and Non Service Connected Disability. It is called Pension with Aid and Attendance by the VA. It is very timely topic as many our members struggle to pay for medical costs. MCL Active Duty Memberships 1. All Active Duty Marines can now become regular members of the League for FREE, for the duration of their enlistment. 2. They will be issued a regular membership numbers with AD in front of it and they will be granted full voting rights & can hold office.

Alan Atwell Commandant Commandant s Office Hours BEATING THE DEAD HORSE It is always easy to beat a dead horse as the saying goes. WE NEED NEW LEADERS. We are now into the eighth month of this fiscal year so the end of this administration s term is quickly coming. What office would you like to hold in 2016-17? Someone has to fill the shoes that will be vacated. I will not be running for another term. Chuck Stotz cannot serve as Judge Advocate as his eligibility ceases 30 June. The four elective positions are commandant, senior vice commandant, junior vice commandant and judge advocate. The other positions are appointed by the commandant. We will be announcing elections at the March meeting and we need YOU to step to the plate and run for office. Most members will support you if only you will run for office. We all have time if we are willing to take the time to serve in elective or appointed positions. Uplift the detachment and run for office. The only way that this detachment will grow and do good works is to have good people who will step forward and become good leaders. 2 Chaplain s Corner Bob Shelton Chaplain One of the duties of the Chaplain s Office is to submit official death notices to the MCL National Office. I have had to do that several times recently. It s not as tough as writing The Letter to the family of a fallen comrade, but it is close. I only had to write two of those letters, but they are indelibly engraved on what is left of my memory. I can still see their faces quite clearly. Someday I will have to struggle to remember what they looked like, but it is a battle I will fight with great gusto as I so desperately want their sacrifice to not be forgotten. I submitted my friend, Lt. Col. John Bailey s notice this week, and, at least for now, I see his face quite clearly as well. Let us all strive and struggle to remember. In many cases the only thing left is the memory. We owe them that. IN MEMORIAM WILLIAM ROGER BRUNELLI 5/14/25-1/18/16 Roger was a Life Member of Detachment 260. He became a life member in 2003. He and his late wife Joan contributed so much to the life of the detachment. His keen sense of humor and his Massachusetts accent brought laughter and humor to everyone he knew. His funeral was held at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church on Thursday, January 21. Roger was born May 14, 1925 in Franklin, Massachusetts. One month after high school graduation he enlisted in the Marine Corps. He rose to the rank of sergeant and repaired airplanes in the Philippines during WWII. After the war he worked for the Draper Corporation in Hopedale, Mass., Spartanburg, S.C. and in Greensboro forty years. He served as our paymaster for a number of years. He married Joan McCarthy in 1961. They spent 48 years together loving, laughing, playing and bickering--- Shut up, No, you shut up: was one of their favorite exchanges which they had printed on t-shirts. A wonderful couple and a wonderful family. Rest eternal grant to him, O Lord, And let light perpetual shine upon him. May his soul through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen. 5 MARINE OF THE MONTH We are pleased to announce that two people were awarded Marine of the Month for the month of December. They were Becky Tyree and Rusty Boaeuf for their outstanding contribution to the Detachment Christmas Dinner Party which was held at the Holiday Inn Airport on December 5.
