Alan Atwell Commandant Commandant s Office Hours BEATING THE DEAD HORSE It is always easy to beat a dead horse as the saying goes. WE NEED NEW LEADERS. We are now into the eighth month of this fiscal year so the end of this administration s term is quickly coming. What office would you like to hold in 2016-17? Someone has to fill the shoes that will be vacated. I will not be running for another term. Chuck Stotz cannot serve as Judge Advocate as his eligibility ceases 30 June. The four elective positions are commandant, senior vice commandant, junior vice commandant and judge advocate. The other positions are appointed by the commandant. We will be announcing elections at the March meeting and we need YOU to step to the plate and run for office. Most members will support you if only you will run for office. We all have time if we are willing to take the time to serve in elective or appointed positions. Uplift the detachment and run for office. The only way that this detachment will grow and do good works is to have good people who will step forward and become good leaders. 2 Chaplain s Corner Bob Shelton Chaplain One of the duties of the Chaplain s Office is to submit official death notices to the MCL National Office. I have had to do that several times recently. It s not as tough as writing The Letter to the family of a fallen comrade, but it is close. I only had to write two of those letters, but they are indelibly engraved on what is left of my memory. I can still see their faces quite clearly. Someday I will have to struggle to remember what they looked like, but it is a battle I will fight with great gusto as I so desperately want their sacrifice to not be forgotten. I submitted my friend, Lt. Col. John Bailey s notice this week, and, at least for now, I see his face quite clearly as well. Let us all strive and struggle to remember. In many cases the only thing left is the memory. We owe them that.
