What to include for all scholarships: 1. The most current high school transcript available. 2. 2 letters of recommendation (or other specific recommendations) - 1 must be from a teacher or counselor. 3. Resume including extra-curricular activities, organizations, publications, school groups and work history. 4. Essay In an essay not to exceed 1 page, unless specified otherwise, write about an event or person that has influenced your life in some way. Check each scholarship s requirements. 5. Specific requirements are listed for the scholarship for which you are applying. 6. Incomplete applications will not be considered! 7. You must submit a separate application for each scholarship for which you apply. Available Scholarships Alyssa Little Foundation Scholarship One Eligible Senior from JJ Pearce High School The Alyssa Little Memorial Scholarship was created in memory of Alyssa Ann Little, who tragically passed away in April 2011. Alyssa graduated from J.J. Pearce High School in 2006 and was known for her quick wit, humor and outgoing personality. In honor of Alyssa, this scholarship will be awarded to one J.J. Pearce High School senior who will be attending a 4-year accredited state college or university. The recipient must graduate with a minimum 3.0 GPA and attend a full time 4-year university or college of his/her choice. The award will be based on a combination of financial need, academic performance, and personal character, and adheres to the guidelines for the scholarship application. Essay must be 2 pages in length and describes your character, integrity, goals in life and why we should choose you for this scholarship. This scholarship is non-renewable and the chosen student must attend the RISD Excellence in Education Foundation Scholarship Breakfast Celebration in order to receive their award. $2,500.00 non-renewable A.M. Anderson Scholarship Lake Highlands High School Seniors This memorial scholarship was established to honor Mr. A.M. Anderson, the first principal of Lake Highlands High School. Student must be a member in good standing of the A.M. Anderson chapter of the National Honor Society of Lake Highlands High School. Amount varies non-renewable The Anderson Bonner Endowment Scholarship Fund Qualifying Seniors from any of the four (4) RISD High Schools Honoring Anderson Bonner, former slave (freed), entrepreneur, and North Dallas land owner who greatly valued education. Student must be planning to attend Prairie View A&M University and have a minimum GPA of 2.75. Student must be a full-time student with a minimum of 12 credits per semester. $3000.00 non-renewable - $1,500 each student The Balfour-Cheek Family Principal s Scholarship L.V. Berkner High School The purpose of this Balfour-Cheek Family Principal s Scholarship is to honor a graduating senior of L.V. Berkner High School whose goal is to Attend a 2-year or 4-year accredited college or university of his/her choice or a vocational school. Recognizing the value of athletic activities in promoting academic success, the recipient must have participated in a minimum of two (2) extra-curricular activities with one being an athletic activity of his/her choice for a duration of one year. The Award will be based upon a combination of financial need, academic performance and personal character without regard to gender, religious preference, cultural heritage or ethnic background. Applicants must write an essay including involvement in community service. $1,000 non-renewable for one (1) student Carolyn G. Bukhair Scholarship AVID Seniors any of the four (4) RISD high schools Dr. Carolyn Bukhair served as superintendent of RISD for many years. During her time as superintendent she was instrumental in bringing the AVID (Advancement via Individual Determination) program to RISD. Her scholarship is designated for an outstanding AVID senior (1) from $1,000 non-renewable Stephanie Lynne Calams Memorial Scholarship Qualifying Senior from any of the four (4) RISD high schools The purpose of the scholarship is to honor a graduating student of the RISD whose stated goal is to attend a four-year college or university. Qualifying students must have a 3.00 GPA and attend full time a 4-year accredited college or university of his/her choice. The Award will be based on a combination of financial need, academic performance, and personal character without regard to gender, religious preference, cultural heritage or ethnic background. Scholarship Awards will be paid directly at $1,000.00 to the college or university of choice. $1,500.00 non-renewable - $500 for three (3) students The Eagle to Eagle Scholarship Fund Richardson High School The purpose of this scholarship is to honor two (2) graduating students of Richardson High School who attended Spring Creek Elementary School. The recipients must have graduated with a 2.50 GPA, attend full time a 4-year accredited college, university or vocational school of his/her choice. The Award will be based on a combination of financial need, academic performance and personal character without regard to gender, religious preference, cultural heritage or ethnic background. J.J. Pearce High School Seniors and The Giana Foundation Scholarship Fund for the Visual & Performing Arts Richardson High School Seniors A scholarship fund established to honor graduating seniors whose stated goal is to study visual and/or performing arts. The scholarship is intended to show appreciation of the J.J. Pearce and Richardson arts programs since members of the Foundation themselves benefited from participation in those programs. Two (2) scholarships awarded to each of two (2) J.J. Pearce graduating seniors and two (2) Richardson High School Seniors who are planning to major in the visual and/or performing arts. Students must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 and attend a 4-year college or university. $5,000.00 non-renewable/each student G-Squared Richardson High School Math Challenge Scholarship Fund Richardson High School Up to five (5) scholarships may be awarded must be a student of RHS Class 2016 with four years of high school math with a grade of B or better in at least 3 math courses Class ranking in the top 45 % and passed all mandatory standardized math tests Two (2) written recommendations from among the student s math teachers, counselor, or extra-curricular activity sponsors 40 hours of community service (includes RHS and Interact) in combined junior and senior years Special consideration to AVID students although not a requirement Must attend an accredited 2- or 4-year college No record of illegal substance use, alcohol abuse or disciplinary problems as determined by the good faith, reasonable efforts of the Scholarship Committee. Compliance documented by a signed statement of student and parent or guardian at the time of the Scholarship Application Must maintain 2.75 average in all college courses for renewal and enrolled in a minimum of 12 hours per semester $500 per semester per student for up to four semesters for a total of $2000 for up to 5 students or as determined by the Selection Committee Renewable if meet criteria per semester Katie Richards Memorial Scholarship J.J. Pearce High School Seniors Katharine Wiley Richards, a Parkhill Junior High student, died of congenital heart disease at age 13 in 1995. She was a creative, sweet and wonderful daughter, sister and friend. In honor of Katie, this scholarship will be awarded to 2 deserving J.J. Pearce High School Seniors each year with a minimum GPA of 90. Student must attend full-time a 4-year undergraduate university or college. The award is based on character, academic performance and financial need. Selected students must attend JJ Pearce High School Award Ceremony to accept the award. $1,500.00 non-renewable for (2) students The Kathy Tran Scholarship Fund for the Creative Arts Qualifying Senior from any of the 4 RISD high schools Three $1,000 scholarships are provided by Kathy Tran, a graduate of RISD, to encourage seniors to further their studies in the creative arts. The scholarship recipients will be chosen from among the seniors from any of the four high schools each year with a minimum GPA of 2.5. The stated goal of the recipient must be the study of the creative arts at an accredited two or four year college. The award is based on financial need, academic performance, and personal character.
