BULLETS By MAJ(CA) Daniel Flores Known to Hawaiians as Wai Momi (water of pearl) yet mostly known as Pearl Harbor where more than 2,000 Americans died when the Imperial Japanese Navy attacked O ahu s military Installations 75 years ago, and is still an active military base and home to the U.S. Pacific Fleet, We take pause for Remembrance Day Dec 7th. This is the 75th Commemoration of Pearl Harbor. The Nov/Dec Issue of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Magazine, article by Jerome Greer Chandler, interviewed Photo by MAJ(CA) Daniel Flores three veterans some 75 years later. One served aboard the USS Arizona, another on the minesweeper Condor and the third as a sailor ashore at Bishop Point. So few survivors of Dec. 7, 1941 remain that the Pearl Harbors Survivors Association disbanded in 2011. Civil Air Patrol (USAF Auxiliary) Celebrates their 75 Anniversary, December 1, 2016 If you come across some CAP cadets on Base, why not wish them a Happy Birthday. It will demonstrate to these young cadets that we also understand and appreciate their time and commitment. We all serve in our own way and in this time of divisiveness after the elections we need to be One and United in our service to the State. History of Civil Air Patrol In the late 1930s, more than 150,000 volunteers with a love for aviation argued for an organization to put their planes and flying skills to use in defense of their country. As a result, the Civil Air Patrol was born one week prior to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Thousands of volunteer members answered America s call to national service and sacrifice by accepting and performing critical wartime missions. Assigned to the War Department under the jurisdiction of the Army Air Corps, the contributions of Civil Air Patrol, including logging more than 500,000 flying hours and saving hundreds of crash victims during World War II are well documented. After the war, a thankful nation understood that Civil Air Patrol could continue providing valuable services to both local and national agencies. On July 1, 1946, President Harry Truman signed Public Law 476 incorporating Civil Air Patrol as a benevolent, nonprofit organization. On May 26, 1948, Congress passed Public Law 557 permanently establishing Civil Air Patrol as the auxiliary of the new U.S. Air Force. Three primary mission areas were set forth at that time: aerospace education, cadet programs, and emergency services. http://www.gocivilairpatrol.com/ about/history_of_civil_air_patrol/ Winter begins - Dec 21 Hanukkah begins at sundown - 24 Dec Christmas Day - 25 Dec Kwanzaa begins - 26 Dec - REMINDER - December UTA is the Annual Uniform Inspection All personnel owning Class A uniforms are expected to wear them to first formation for inspection.
