VOLUNTEER AT THE IGA PERTH ROYAL SHOW 23-30 September 2017
THE IGA PERTH ROYAL SHOW Thousands of volunteers assist the Royal Agricultural Society of WA (RASWA) to stage the State s largest scale event, the IGA Perth Royal Show. Volunteers are welcome to come everyday for the Show, which runs from Saturday 23 September to Saturday 30 September. They can also choose to attend for just a few hours - it s up to you. We invite you to join us in 2017.
Information Booths Staffing the Information Booth at the Station entry gate, sees volunteers direct people to the different areas in the Showground, or answer a variety of questions about what s on and where the main activities are positioned. Training is provided on 16 September at 1.00pm for people interested in this role. 8.30am - 1.30pm (with breaks) 1.30pm - 6.00pm (with breaks)
Animal Areas Staffing the Pat a Pig, Cuddle a Chicken and Love a Lamb patting pens is a rewarding experience. Volunteers in this area need to supervise the entrance gate to control the number of people visiting the exhibit, ensuring the animals do not escape and are handled appropriately. 9.00am - 12.00pm 12.00pm - 3.00pm 3.00pm - 6.00pm
Educational Exhibits Follow the Yellow Brick Road (FYBR) is an agricultural educational showbag that takes participants on an agricultural discovery trail around the Showground. On each of the Follow the Yellow Brick Road stations our volunteers assist with an activity, hand out samples or stamp the FYBR passport. 9.00am - 1.00pm 1.00pm - 5.00pm
Educational Exhibits Farm to Food features interactive displays that teach people where our food comes from. The activities are designed for 5 to 12 year olds. Volunteers are required to help the children with the activities. 8.45am - 1.30pm (with breaks) 1.30pm - 6.30pm (with breaks)
Educational Exhibits In Discover Dirt, children and adults participate in activities that explore soil types, use iscopes, or participate in soil art. You could be helping children explore the soil tunnel or helping them learn fun facts. 8.45am - 1.30pm (with breaks) 1.30pm - 6.00pm (with breaks)
Walk through WA Have fun helping children and adults experience WA and what it has to offer. This exhibit is located in the Centenary pavilion. You will be assisting with interactive and entertaining elements related to the primary industries in our WA Regions. Eg: goldpanning, metal detecting, etc. Volunteers will need to supervise and control the number of people using the exhibits to avoid overcrowding. 8.45am - 1.30pm (with breaks) 1.30pm - 6.00pm (with breaks)
Perth Royal Flower Show We are looking for volunteers of all ages for the Perth Royal Flower Show to ensure that the exhibits are watered twice daily, kept free of rubbish and safe from touch. It will be an advantage if the participants have a love and an interest in flowers for they may be required to assist the general public answering simple questions about the flowers. We will be holding a training session at 9.00am on the first Saturday of the show to which all volunteers will be invited and at the beginning of each shift information documents will be available. Volunteers are also invited to join us at the floral demonstrations which will be held twice daily for the first seven days of the show. 8.45am - 1.30pm (with breaks) 1.30pm - 6.00pm (with breaks)
Emergency Floating Volunteers You will be asked to cover a shift where a volunteer has not attended or may be asked to assist in any of our activities - you could be assigned to an animal pavilion so please let us know if you are allergic to animals or hay. 9.00am - 1.30pm (with breaks) 1.30pm - 6.30pm (with breaks) Office Work Pre Show mail outs in the main office. Art Staffing the Agricultural Art display and the Open Art display. Time commitment is approximately four to five hours.
SECTION There are limited opportunities in the competitive sections if you have knowledge or skills in a specific area. For example, if you have a background with sheep or cattle there may be an opportunity for you to work with the sheep, wool or cattle committees or even join the committee. Horses There are some opportunities for assistance behind the scenes, acting as runners to and from the main arena with results, counting ribbons, marshalling before the competition etc. 8.30am - 6.00pm (with breaks)
SECTION Dogs Volunteers are required to assist the stewards in the dog section. This could involve handing out prize certificates to exhibitors or controlling entrance and exits to the dog judging lawn. 9.00am - 1.00pm Pigeons and Poultry Making the morning tea for the stewards and judges. 10.00am - 2.00pm
