The UNC Charlotte Urban Institute Who We Are: Founded in 1969, the UNC Charlotte Urban Institute is the University s research and community outreach center for urban and regional affairs. Our Mission: To seek solutions to the social, economic, and environmental challenges facing our community. What We Do: The Institute provides a wide range of services, including technical assistance and training related to operations and data management; public opinion surveys; land-use and natural resources consulting; economic development research and community planning to meet the needs of the Charlotte region and its citizens.

The UNC Charlotte Urban Institute Our 14-County Region: Anson, Cabarrus, Catawba, Cleveland, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln, Mecklenburg, Rowan, Stanly, and Union counties in N.C. Chester, Lancaster, and York counties in S.C.

Charlotte Regional Indicators Project Created to provide a reliable and objective source of data to assist citizens and leaders in addressing the many public policy challenges facing this rapidly growing region. Benchmark indicators across 10 theme areas measure and track the quality of life in the 14-county Charlotte region. Concept dates to 2004. First report was released in 2007, followed by county profiles in 2009. Now the project is completely digital- all data are available online, free to the public at ri.uncc.edu.

Indicator Partnerships A collaboration between the Institute and community organizations to collect, analyze and publish data through the Regional Indicators website Offers agencies with little to no research capacity a low-cost alternative for quality data collection, analysis, and research Current partners include: Charlotte-Mecklenburg Women s Summit Council for Children s Rights United Way of Central Carolinas MeckEd Goodwill of the Southern Piedmont Urban League of Central Carolinas Gaston Together

Women s Summit Partnership Women s Summit & the Institute worked together on the Women s Summit 2008 Action Book Current partnership began in early 2011 and focused on identifying and tracking indicators to measure how women fared during the recession compared to men. Products of this partnership 4 quarterly reports focused on women and the recession: Women, Wages & Work Summary of these reports for 2012 Women s Summit event Women s Summit partner website
