PURPOSE OF THE POSITION To provide specialist clinical engineering services that will include (but not limited to) ongoing performance verification, preventative and corrective maintenance and equipment assessments across Counties Manukau Health sites and/or regional sites. PLACE IN THE ORGANISATION General Manager: Facilities Clinical Engineering Manager Middlemore Campus Team Leader MSC Team Leader Clinical Engineering Coordinator Middlemore Campus Anaesthetics/ Theatres/MSC/ Outliers Pool Equipment Workshop and WoF Unit Technologist Technologist (MSC/CSB) Technologist This Role (CSB/MSC) Technologist (Instruments) (CSB/ MSC) (CSB/ MSC) Assistant Assistant Assistant Assistant Technologist Reviewed Dec 2015 NATURE AND SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES Key Accountability Provide a safe, cost effective, optimal clinical engineering maintenance support service:- Perform performance and safety verification testing (WoF) to a high standard in accordance with regulatory and industry standards as well as CM Health s policies and procedures Standards / Achievements Perform performance and safety verification (PV) testing of equipment to AS/NZS standards in conjunction with the current New Zealand electrical regulations Complete scheduled Preventative Maintenance tasks as per the AIMS data base monthly printout. Perform testing of other clinical equipment 1 of 10

Key Accountability Perform preventative and corrective maintenance to a high standard in accordance with regulatory and industry standards as well as CM Health s policies and procedures To perform initial acceptance testing on new equipment. Perform initial testing of equipment and asset register the equipment. To maintain a level of usable stock. To maintain and support equipment for critical care/high acuity areas, as allocated by Clinical Engineering Management e.g: Theatres Anaesthetics MSC/ Outliers services 2 of 10 Standards / Achievements to PM guidelines or as instructed. Initiate repairs to equipment as instructed or from the Work Order List in a timely manner. Ensure that repaired equipment has been tested to the PV/PM guidelines. Ensure all repaired equipment is collected and returned to the end user in a timely manner. Provide technical and consultancy assistance to the CE Team Leaders, CE Coordinator and/or CE Manager. Perform Acceptance and commissioning test on medical devices in accordance AS/NZS standards in conjunction with the current New Zealand electrical regulations. Asset register the equipment by entering the relevant equipment and purchasing details into the AIMS data base. Ensure that a set of service and operators manuals are available for the manual library. Ensure that the equipment is delivered to the end user and that a signature is receipted. Provide assistance to CE Team Leaders, CE Coordinator and/or CE Manager by completing audits, reviews and/or assessments as requested. Order and maintain stock held by the department Take part in annual stock takes and issue purchase requisitions for new stock when necessary. Ensure repairs to critical equipment are performed and equipment returned in a timely manner Assist in training sessions when required to promote a greater technical understanding Assist others in the Clinical Engineering Department with their understanding of servicing the area and medical equipment. Create and maintain a good working relationship with the allocated area/s.

Key Accountability To maintain an accurate and up-to-date Maintenance Management System (MMS) and administration systems. Standards / Achievements Provide the area with an effective, efficient and safe clinical engineering service and consultancy service. Assist the areas with their medical equipment management by providing accurate and time reports regarding the equipment function, condition and replacement cycle. Ensure accurate and up-to-date records are entered into the departments Maintenance Information System pertaining to medical equipment asset management, equipment life-cycle management, maintenance costs, inspection and/or preventative maintenance frequency, service history, etc. Ensure the data is captured in a timely manner (no later than the next business day). Produce various reports on request pertaining to the life cycle aspects of equipment by extracting data and information from Maintenance Information System. Obtain and verify the cost effectiveness of quotations received for any maintenance or spare parts. Generate the appropriate requisitions for the maintenance of equipment or spare parts. Ensure that accurate records are kept with regards to repairs or spares purchase from suppliers, agents or service centres. Generate reports on evaluation of equipment on request. To mentor junior staff, to develop their skill and knowledge levels. 3 of 10 Develop a training program for junior staff allocated under the mentoring program ensuring the following are in place : o Good clinical engineering practices, o Knowledge on test procedures and usage of test equipment. o Develop general and specific medical device maintenance skills. Review, assess and sign off junior staff when they have completed the training on a

In conflict situations will be required to exercise sound judgement, negotiation and persuasiveness skills, toward facilitating a workable outcome. PROBLEM COMPLEXITY Will be regularly challenged by a wide range of medical equipment. There will be a requirement to be able to prioritise issues and negotiate time frames, while still providing a quality customer service. 5 of 10

DIMENSION OF THE POSITION The incumbent will be responsible to the Team Leaders and Clinical Engineering Manager for the achievement of agreed objectives and operates within the confines of Counties Manukau Health. PERSON SPECIFICATIONS 7 of 10 Minimum Qualification Diploma in Electronics or Electrical Engineering and/or Clinical Engineering (NZQA Level 5 or higher). EAS Registration (or be eligible within 1 year) Experience Min 5+ years clinical engineering experience AND Skills/ Knowledge/ Behaviour A minimum of 2 years experience in maintaining critical and complex anaesthetic, theatres equipment, and/or relevant medical equipment. Electro-mechanical aptitude and fault finding ability Good understanding of medical devices and local standards Medical equipment repair and maintenance experience and knowledge (such as anaesthetic and/or theatre equipment) Drivers licence (Full motorcar licence) Customer service skills. Computer literacy Ability to train, develop and mentor staff members Ability to develop, document and implement procedures Preferred Degree or post grad qualification in electronics or clinical engineering Human Anatomy and Physiology certificate. EST Registration Supplier approved training and qualifications to service medical equipment relevant to the scope of this role. Min 7+ years clinical engineering experience of which 2+ years of critical clinical area servicing experience. Understanding of Human Anatomy and Physiology.
