2012 Mountain Top Weekend Welcome Calimesa SDA Church Family and Friends April 27-29 Theme - Confessing Jesus Welcome to our annual Mountain Top Weekend! It is always good to get away together as God s people. This truly is an annual event I know we all look forward to... a very intentional time of getting away with Jesus. It is a wonderful time for us to remember the invitation Jesus offered us. Come unto Me, Jesus said, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Do you hear it? Come unto Me. Jesus offers us the greatest invitation we can ever receive. He invites us to Himself. He invites us to be with Him, to know Him, and to be loved by Him. Our theme this weekend is Confessing Jesus. As His church and as His people who else and what else is there to confess? Jesus Himself is our sole confession! I want to give a special thank you to our speakers, musicians, and all those helping and serving in so many special ways this weekend! It is through your service of love for Jesus that we all will confess Jesus not only this weekend but for all of eternity! The love of God, the grace of our Lord Jesus, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with us all as we gather in His name. While studying at La Sierra, she served on the pastoral staff of the La Sierra University Church. Chris subsequently completed a master s of art degree in religious studies in 2005. After completing her masters degree at La Sierra, Chris received a call to Calimesa to replace Derek Morris, who transferred to the Forest Lake Church in Apopka, Florida. Well known to our Church Family, having pastored us from 2005-2009, she now pastors the La Sierra University Church. Chris is married to Kerby Oberg a physician-scientist at Loma Linda University where he teaches and runs a research laboratory focusing on congenital abnormalities and birth defects. Their daughters Amanda and Alisa are university students studying business and psychology respectively. Chris is known for her preaching, spiritual leadership, and dedication to God and sharing God s grace. We are happy to welcome her & Kerby back to the Calimesa family for our weekend together. Pastor Alex Bryan Alex Bryan grew up in the Appalachian mountains of Western North Carolina with his two brothers, David and Brandon. His formal education included Southern College (B.A. History, Religion), Andrews University (M.Div.) and George Fox University (D.Min.) He subsequently pastored churches in Georgia and Tennessee before moving to Washington in 2009. He is married to Nicole Ward, an English graduate of Walla Walla College. Together, with daughter Audrey and son William they enjoy romping about the Walla Walla Valley, enjoying Worm Ranch burritos, Ice Berg shakes, and the many parks, trails and mountains of the Great Northwest. Senior Pastor of the Walla Walla University Church, and teacher in the schools of business and theology at Walla Walla University, is now how many know Alex Bryan. He is also co-director of the ONE project, a grass roots movement celebrating the supremacy of Jesus Christ in the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Alex is author of the Green Cord Dream: Pursuing Ellen White s Vision of Jesus and His Church. We welcome Alex to our weekend together as a church family!

Youth Speaker Pastor Matthew Gamble Matthew Gamble was born and raised Catholic, but became an atheist at the age of 14. Increasingly fascinated by the Rastafarian religion, Matthew found himself on the Island of Jamaica at the age of 19, and soon began smuggling marijuana into Miami, Florida. Shortly after that time, God led him to a Christian pastor who listened to his story and handed him a Bible. As he began exploring the teachings of Jesus, his life began to transform from the inside out. Since that time, he has received a BA in Theology as well as a Masters of Divinity from Andrews University. In 2008, he completed a Doctorate in Ministry with an emphasis in Transformational Leadership. He is presently serving full time with Vaga- Bondservant Int l, a non-profit ministry that has taken him all over the world speaking about the life and teachings of Jesus. He has had the opportunity to return back to Jamaica to share the good news of Jesus Christ. Matthew has served as a volunteer chaplain with the Seattle Police Dept. and spent two years volunteering as a teacher at the Union Gospel Mission of Seattle. Matthew s passions include his wife and daughter Julia, international travel, people, and studying trends in secularism and postmodernism. He is living in St. Augustine, FL where he is married to Susan, his college sweetheart. Matthew s first book, Reboot Your Spiritual Life, was published in 2010. Welcome to Mountain Top Weekend! About Our Guest Musicians Eric Belvin Eric Belvin was born and raised in Federal Way, WA. He is the second of six children. He began taking lessons with his grandmother (a retired concert pianist) at age five. His musical training was strictly classical, but Eric also began playing for his church at age twelve. In late 2006, Eric met and auditioned for the Dean of California Baptist University s School of Music. He began attending as a Piano Performance major the very next semester, at age 16. He has been playing ever since for the school s University Choir and Orchestra, small singing groups, instrumentalists and vocalists. Eric will graduate in May with a M.M. in piano performance, and hopes to work as a professional musician and composer in the LA area. Eric has blessed us with his ministry in past years and we welcome him back now as part of our Calimesa family. Each of them are highly accomplished musicians that share a love for ministry. They have all been featured soloists for recorded CD s and live concerts by the CBU Choir and Orchestra. In addition, they are heavily involved with extracurricular musical activities - from composing and arranging to singing in the chapel praise bands and other small singing groups. They love the music and the message they share, and are delighted to be joining in worship with you this weekend! Eric accompanies them on Keyboard. Jharen Haynes: Age 21, Senior, Christian Studies major, from Moreno Valley. Elizabeth Turner: Age 22, Senior, Anthropology and Sociology major from Kent, WA. Jessica Kay: Age 22, Senior, Psychology major, from Gig Harbor, WA. Jared Gibbs: Age 23, Senior, Vocal Performance and Composition, from Issaquah, WA. Chiz Rider Chiz accepted Christ when he was seven years old. By then he had been playing the trumpet for 3 years. Since then, he has dedicated himself and his music to Jesus. Ninety percent self taught, he began imitating songs he heard on the radio. He later studied for a short time under the direction of Don Smith, then assistant Penn State University Blue Band director, and David O Neill of Nashville. Chiz fresh musical style embodies a jazz/pop sound that has been influenced by such versatile jazz musicians as Wynton and Brandford Marsalis. Chiz Rider performs over 250 concerts annually throughout North America as well as several international tours. Chis is married, lives in Pennsylvania and has 2 boys and 2 girls. We welcome Chiz back to Mountain Top. The Bunnell Strings Quintet Not long after they learned how to walk, Keren, Kimberly, Corrie, Cara & Ross Bunnell each started learning violin through the Suzuki Method. They haven t stopped playing since. They have made guest appearances for many local music societies and have won awards in various competitions. In addition to their extensive quintet work, each of the siblings have been invaluable members of larger ensembles; the concert stage with San Diego Youth Symphony; City Ballet of San Diego; and the Christian Community Theater. In August of 2011 all five Bunnells chose Cal Baptist University and are performing in the choir and orchestra. They travel as the Bunnell Strings on the weekends around Southern California.
