Reports to: Division: Location: Reviewed: Supervises: Northwest Fire District Position Description FIREFIGHTER/PARAMEDIC Fire Captain Suppression Assigned Station 09/2015 None FLSA: Status: Grade: Revised: Non-Eempt Full-Time 130 09/2015 POSITION SUMMARY The fundamental reason this classification eists is to be responsible for performing the following duties, in addition to those duties delineated on the Firefighter job description. Work in this assignment requires the demonstration of continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service. Performs other related duties as assigned. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Participates in the delivery of emergency and non-emergency medical and health care. Assesses the nature and etent of illness or injury to establish and prioritize medical procedures to be followed or needed for additional assistance. Administers advance life support care to sick and injured persons in pre-hospital setting as authorized and under the direction of a base hospital physician. Communicates with physician and other medical personnel via voice or telemetry communications. Restores, stabilizes, and monitors medical of patient using electrocardiograph, defibrillator, telemetry equipment, oygen and suction devices, and other sophisticated medical equipment, or as directed by physician. Administers initial treatment at emergency scene and takes and documents patient s vital signs. Observes, records, and reports to physician patient s and reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents. Checks and ascertains that assigned emergency vehicle is completely stocked and in good running at the beginning of and through the shift. May drive emergency vehicles to and from incident scenes and medical treatment facilities. Prepares detailed and accurate reports of medical incidents. Assists in performing pulmonary ventilation to open airways and ventilate patient. Administers intravenous fluids and injections of medications and drugs, following established protocols. Interprets cardiac arrhythmias. May lead Emergency Medical Technicians in emergency care procedures. Completes required recertification process as set forth by the EMS Section, Base Hospital, and Arizona Department of Health Services. Acts as a mentor (preceptor) for Paramedic Students. Preceptors must meet the State of Arizona requirement of two (2) years in certification, and be authorized to act as a preceptor by the EMS Section.

Performs Firefighter duties. Complies with the rules, policies and procedures as set forth by the District, Base Hospital, and Arizona Department of Health Services. (see s for underlined word[s]) Additional Requirements of the Driving Position: This position requires possession of a valid driver s license with an acceptable driving record for the pre-employment background check process. Driving Position: means a job which requires operating a vehicle on District Business or operating a District vehicle as part of its range of duties, which may be primary or secondary within the range of duties. 3. Valid: means that an individual s current driver s license is not epired, refused, cancelled, revoked, suspended, or restricted. Driving Level: Primary s 1. Driving Levels for driving District vehicles or personal vehicle: a. Primary level is where the employee or volunteer drives either daily or weekly. b. Secondary level is where the employee or volunteer drives monthly or less frequently. Driver s License Type: Operator License (Class D) (reference link below). An operator license allows you to drive any vehicle that does not require a motorcycle or commercial driver license.
