Skye s work has focused specifically on Esri and Schneider Electric GIS projects for the electric, gas, water, and telecomunication utility verticals. Skye founded SSP Innovations in 2003 and the company has grown to be recognized throughout the industry for their expertise in core product implementation, gap analysis, product customization, and systems integration. The consulting team at SSP has been praised for their thought leadership within the Esri GIS market as the platform has evolved from a client-server application into the powerful cloud-based solution that it is today. Skye currently sits on the Esri Partnering Advisory Council, a small group of influential partners that contribute to future GIS product direction and industry focus areas. Skye also publishes monthly articles for SSP on the use of GIS within utilities, speaks regularly at industry conferences, and has contributed to a number of utility and telecom industry publications on GIS best practices. Skye earned a BSBA in Decision and Information Sciences from the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL and subsequently attained various Microsoft technical certifications. Call for Presentations 15 th Annual MAGIC Conference The Utility of GIS November 12 13, 2015 Memphis, Tennessee The 15 th Annual Memphis Area Geographic Information Council (MAGIC) Conference will be held at the Memphis Botanic Gardens located at 750 Cherry Rd, Memphis, TN 38117 in midtown Memphis, Tennessee, on November 12 13, 2015. Join us as we celebrate GIS Day in the Mid South region! This year s theme is The Utility of GIS. Our broad topic conference gives you the presenter an opportunity to showcase your work and show how useful GIS can be in any field to professionals and interested individuals throughout the Memphis area. Individuals from the private & public sectors as well as students are invited to submit abstracts for our regional event. Topics related to GIS and its applications are welcome for submission, and you will find the abstract criteria below: Abstract Submission Guidelines Presenter name(s) Presentation title Company name Address, phone, and e mail information Abstract (150 words or less) Brief presenter biography (25 words or less) Presentations should be no longer than 25 minutes with an additional five minutes allowed for questions for a conventional presentation or 5 minutes for a lightning talk. Your peers attending the 2015 Conference will be casting votes for their favorite GIS Map Poster. Contest entries will be displayed in the Map Gallery for everyone to see. Memphis Area Geographic Information Council Academic Scholarship Program Purpose: Education is a central component of the Memphis Area Geographic Information Council s (MAGIC) mission. The purpose of the MAGIC Academic Scholarship program is to encourage and support students education through the completion of commendable GIS projects. MAGIC hopes to award one $2000 scholarship annually, available to any qualifying undergraduate student enrolled in a college or university in the area served by MAGIC. Eligibility and Requirements: The applicant must be an undergraduate student currently enrolled and in good standing at a college or university in the area served by MAGIC. The applicant must be enrolled Full-Time, or at a minimum must have completed at least 12 credit hours in consecutive semesters. Applicants may be from any academic discipline; however, the project undertaken must involve GIS. The applicant must submit a completed application. The applicant must be available to give a 20-30 minute presentation on his or her work at the MAGIC GIS day conference, held November 12-13, 2015. MAGIC will be given permission to use the resulting project materials, copies of the materials, or make reference to the materials, to promote the scholarship program and to advance the mission of MAGIC. Actual ownership of resulting materials will remain with the applicant. MAGIC Board members, Scholarship subcommittee members, and their immediate family members are ineligible to apply. Preference will be given to projects based in the Midsouth area. Deadlines and Evaluation: The deadline for submitting completed written applications is October 23, 2015. The MAGIC Scholarship subcommittee will evaluate and score all written applications based on the information provided by the applicant and select the scholarship finalists, who will be notified by October 30, 2015. Finalists must give a 20-30 minute presentation outlining their project/work at the MAGIC GIS Day Conference (November 12-13). Presentations will be evaluated and scored by the Scholarship subcommittee. The
MAGIC Board of Directors will award one scholarship, based on the recommendations of the Scholarship subcommittee. The Board reserves the right to withhold scholarships if requirements or eligibility are not met. Announcement of the scholarship award will be made at the closing session of the MAGIC GIS Day Conference (the closing session is typically scheduled at the end of day two of the conference). Disbursement schedule is at the Board s discretion. Description of the project limit of 3 pages. A statement of the purpose of the project and its objectives. Include a statement pertaining to the originality of work or whether the research is part of a group project, research with professor, etc. If the project is part of a group effort or ongoing research, please state how your work contributed to the overall effort. A description of the methods that will be or have been used to accomplish the objectives. The significance of the project. 2. Personal Statement limit to 1 page. A statement of your plans as they relate to educational and career objectives and how those plans relate to GIS. 3. One letter of recommendation. Must be from a teacher, faculty member, or administrator. 4. Proof of Enrollment. A copy of your complete unofficial transcript.
