About Us You are invited to a unique educational program addressing Advances in Diagnosis, Devices and Drugs. This conference is designed to enhance our clinical awareness of cutting-edge information related to different aspects of neonatal care, including but not limited to: developing the most appropriate family focused NICU, the development of the artificial placenta, evaluation of human milk fortifiers, neonatal pharmacology update, neonatal abstinence syndrome, gene therapy and its potential and a roundtable discussion of Avastin vs Lucentis. An expert panel will explore new techniques and best evidence of application for some of these promising therapeutic options of the future. As an attendee, you will also be able to appreciate the complex ethical, quality and safety issues inherent in taking care of our most vulnerable newborn infants. Conference Objectives At the conclusion of this educational activity, the participant will be able to: Discuss the development and potential usefulness of the artificial placenta Understand the potential benefits and limitations with the use of near-infrared spectroscopy Understand the diagnosis of spinal muscular atrophy and discuss the newest therapeutic agent to treat spinal muscular atrophy Review the current markers of infection and their appropriate application in the clinical setting Discuss the role of telemedicine in the field of neonatology along with its potential limitations Understand the uses of, as well as similarities and differences between, Lucentis and Avastin in the treatment of ROP Identify other types and potential risks associated with medical and surgical treatment for ROP Understand the importance of building a family focused NICU Identify the processes integral to creating a family focused NICU Discuss the role of coiling in treatment of symptomatic PDA Review the differences benefits and potential risks in employing human milk fortifiers in neonatal nutrition Understand the challenges presented by difficult to feed infants in the NICU Review various approaches to feeding difficult neonates Evaluate the up-to-date information related to the use of postnatal steroids in the neonatal population Discuss the potential long-term complications of postnatal steroids Understand the future role of surfactant replacement in neonatal medicine Identify newer methodologies of surfactant administration Discuss the concept and technique of real-time endotracheal tube monitoring Identify the advantages and components of a successful Neuro NICU Review and discuss risks and benefits of pharmacologic agents employed in the care of newborn infants Discuss the current status of therapeutic hypothermia in the treatment of neonatal hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) Explore new potential therapies for the treatment of HIE Develop a comprehensive understanding of neonatal abstinence syndrome and its management through a review of the literature and potential best practices 1
