THE MICHIGAN GUARDIANSHIP ASSOCIATION proudly presents The Summer Conference & 25th Anniversary Celebration June 12th & 13th MotorCity Casino & Hotel Detroit, Michigan Networking, Continuing Education and Tiger s - oh my! The Michigan Guardianship Association is very excited to commemorate 25 years! This conference boasts two full days of education, networking and celebration. With an amazing array of speakers and estimated 13 continuing education credits hours, it promises not to disappoint. We are honored to welcome Richard H. Bernstein, Esq. as our Keynote Speaker. As a dedicated advocate for disabled rights, Richard provides a voice to those individuals who otherwise would be forced to be silent. He will share with us his expertise on how to be a better advocate for wards, reaching potentials, breaking down stereotypes, the importance of integration/accessibility and placing emphasis on the quality of life. Along with education, the conference provides opportunity for our hard working members to let their hair down. Located at the wonderful MotorCity Casino and Hotel in Detroit, there are plenty of opportunities to relax and recharge. MGA scheduled events include the Welcome Mixer on Wednesday evening, 25th Anniversary celebration dinner on Thursday evening and the optional Tiger s game on Friday evening. Hotel Accommodations The Michigan Guardianship Association is glad to provide discounted accommodation rates to its attendees. Each room reservation includes complimentary wireless, self and free valet parking, complimentary Starbucks coffee and bottled waters. As well as 24 hour access to the business and fitness centers! Registration Information Conference Registration: Please register by May 30th. Complete the conference registration form and return as indicated. Each attendee must submit a complete form. Fees include tuition, educational materials, snacks, and meals. Refunds and Cancellations: Requests for refunds will be honored when received by May 30th. No refunds will be made after May 30th. There is a $30.00 administration fee for each refund; substitutions may be made at any time. We do accept walk-in registrations. Please note that there will be NO refunds for Tiger s tickets. No exceptions can be made as tickets are pre-paid. Continuing Education: MGA will provide a signed certificate of attendance for approximately 13+ clock hours for each participant. Certificates will be signed by MGA staff after each session and will be collected prior to the Judges Corner session on Friday, June 13th to be recorded. Please note that if you must leave the conference prior to that session, you must have your certificate recorded by the Administrator. Certificates that are not recorded with MGA cannot be validated. Please see the registration desk or contact the administrator with any questions. Dietary Requirements: MGA makes every effort to provide meals that accommodate the dietary requirements of our members. If you have a request please be sure to communicate so on your registration form. Please note that we must alert the staff of any food allergy or dietary requirements before the event to ensure proper accommodation. If you have questions, concerns or specific directions for the preparation of your meal please contact the MGA Administrator, Sara Dziurman, at your earliest possible opportunity. Lodging Information: Our conference will be held at the Motor City Casino & Hotel. We STRONGLY recommend that you make reservations as soon as possible. In this 2-hour preview to the full course version, participants will be introduced to the language and philosophy of Crucial Conversation Skills. Sally Hurme, Congress co-chair and noted US guardianship expert, will highlight some of the best practices the Congress participants identified. From the nitty-gritty of managing case loads and getting adequate compensation for the work guardians do to the global movement toward more person-centered planning and supported decision-making. 1:40 pm - 1:50 pm Break What s New In Medicaid in 2014? David L. Shaltz, Of Counsel, Chalgian & Tripp Law Offices PLLC 1:50 pm - 3:50 pm This presentation will describe Michigan s new Healthy Michigan Plan for individuals between the ages of 19 and 64, provide updates on eligibility requirements for Medicaid coverage of nursing home care and for the MIChoice Waiver, Program of All Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) and Medicare Savings Programs, discuss the Department of Community Health s administration of Medicaid Estate Recovery and review online information resources on Michigan s Medicaid program. 3:50 pm - 4:00 pm Break Judges Corner 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm MGA is proud to invite Probate Judges from around the state of Michigan.
