Mid-Willamette Valley Community Action Agency EHS Health Advocate Bilingual English-Spanish Full-time, 12 month position The EHS Bilingual Health Advocate provides services to support the physical, social, and emotional health and well being of all Early Head Start children. This includes monitoring the timely completion of health requirements for enrolled children, such as medical and dental exams, identified treatment and follow-up, and monitoring accuracy and completion of health information in child files. The Wellness Advocate also monitors timely completion and follow-up for developmental and behavioral screenings while assisting in training site staff to understand and support issues related to physical health, emotional health and disabilities. $14.53 to $16.06 hourly Kaiser Medical, Vision, & Dental 4% annual salary contribution to 401(k) Flex account, Basic Life and AD&D, paid vacation, sick and holidays The successful candidate must pass a bilingual English-Spanish skills exam to qualify for this position. This position will also work in partnership with Early Head Start staff to help remove barriers that are preventing families from accessing health care and treatment as well as early intervention and mental health services. Education & Experience High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED); Associate s degree in a health, child development, or social work related field and a minimum of two years of experience working with young children and families, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with infants and toddlers preferred, and previous experience with the following job duties is strongly preferred: Assisting families with obtaining children s health exams, health screening treatment/follow-up care, health insurance, and medical/dental homes, and in accessing early intervention and mental health services. Promotion of Early Childhood Health and Wellness (40%) Provide advocacy and effective case management within the continuum of the early childhood wellness including prenatal care, infant/toddler health, wellness, child development, preventive strategies, immunizations, health/developmental screenings, and social/emotional well-being. Case Management of all children enrolled in Early Head Start and Early Head Start Child Care Partnership; maintaining accurate records to ensure completion of all health-related requirements and integrated delivery of necessary health services, referrals, and education. Communicates with medical/dental homes and families to obtain necessary medical/dental documentation, as well as health management plans for conditions such as asthma and allergies before the child enters the program. Maintains Health Alert Lists for sites and manages the intake of medication. Supports the completion of vision, hearing, and growth screenings for enrolled children. Coordinates classroom dental screenings, assisting when necessary. Establishes relationships with community partners, local health centers, health care providers and dental providers to help remove barriers that Early Head Start families face in meeting health requirements. Maintains effective tracking and follow-up systems, as well as proficiency in ChildPlus and related reports. Effectively manage multiple priorities and appointments to support workload and performance standards. Collaboration with Early Head Start Staff to Promote the Health, Wellness, Development, and Inclusion of Infants and Toddlers (40%) Works directly with staff to ensure timely completion and follow-up of health requirements as well as developmental and behavioral screenings. Researches and maintains current working knowledge of community and organization resources to share with staff and families when appropriate and evaluates to what extent each resource is viable and useful. Works closely with Intake Assistants, Specialists, Managers, and Transportation Services during intake and enrollment of children with diagnosed disabilities or those receiving early intervention services. Proactively supports families and staff to ensure health and disability-related accommodations are in place before child enters program. Partners with the inclusion and support team to identify strategies that support the inclusion of all children. Partners with the health team to identify program wide trends or emergent health and safety concerns Communicates effectively by email with staff and community partners. Maintains on-going documentation of communications with staff, families, and service agencies. Other (20%) Supporting Early Head Start program operations and enrollment by conducting enrollment appointments as requested, providing resource referrals when family needs or developmental concerns become evident during enrollment appointments. Attends and participates in monthly family services meetings, health team meetings, inclusion and support team meetings and other meetings as requested. Meets with the Health and Wellness Manager a minimum of one time per month to report progress, support plans, trends, and to problem-solve.
