PROGRAM STRENGTHS 2/6/2013 UNIT MISSION STATEMENT: The Radiologic Technology Program of Doña Ana Community College is committed to the principle that higher education enables students to advance professionally as well as personally. The Radiologic Technology Program offers and delivers a high standard of radiologic, didactic, and clinical education for the student which develops their potential as effective future technologists. STAFF PRESENT: Annja Cox, Michael Stewart, Tamara Chaffee PROGRAM STRENGTH Number 1 Dedicated, Professional, Qualified, and Respected Faculty 1.Graduates of the program are highly prepared (above national average on pass rate on national registry certification exam and over 90% of graduates pass the registry on first attempt)and ready to enter the work force. 2. Student follow up surveys indicate that graduates are very satisfied with the knowledge base and professionalism of the faculty. 3.Program is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Radiologic Technology and abides by high standards PROGRAM STRENGTH Number 2 Employer satisfaction with our graduates 1.High request rate from employers for DACC graduates 2.High employer satisfaction rate on follow up surveys 3.Clinical affiliates hire the students who do clinicals at their facilities PROGRAM STRENGTH Number 3 High pass rate on national certification exam (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) 1.Above national average on certification exam 2.More than 90% of students pass registry on first attempt. 3.National Certification is required to work in field PROGRAM STRENGTH Number 4 Strong ties with the community 1.Very active advisory group members include 1 lay person, 2 current students, faculty, graduates, clinical instructors and administrators from our clinical sites in Las Cruces, El Paso, Silver City, Deming, Alamogordo, Carlsbad, Artesia, and Ruidoso. The members provide input for changes/recommendations to policy and procedures, admission criteria, etc

2.Radiology Departments request to be clinical sites for DACC and request to employ our graduates. Recently we have added NMSU Health Center and The Children's Hospital in El Paso. 3.We partipate in local public school health fairs and school tours of our campus and program. PROGRAM STRENGTH Number 5 Supportive administration and educational resources 1.Administation has supported the start up of an online Computed Tomography (CT) Certificate. This allows working technologists to prepare for the CT registry. 2.Program has collaborative participation with administration on decisions effecting the program (The program has a voice in budget process and request of increases in budget or equipment). 3. The college has supported new equipment purchases.

PROGRAM CONCERNS 2/7/2013 PROGRAM CONCERN Number 1 College and community requested radiology program to add additional certificate program Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). Current faculty lack time and expertise to initiate program. 1.Work with administration to come up with a plan to develop new program. 2.Hire fulltime faculty who is certified in CT and MRI credentials to help implement program. Currently we have courses in CT taught by a part time instructor. 3.Develop program to be on line to meet state plus national demand. PROGRAM CONCERN Number 2 Teaching aids, equipment replacement and repair costs 1.Create a line item in budget for equipment repairs. 2.Look at purchasing a portable x ray machine and wireless digital cassette 3.Develop a 2nd Radiology suite to include flouroscopy equipment PROGRAM CONCERN Number 3 1. 2. 3.
