OHIO HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL COACHES ASSOCIATION MINUTES of FALL MEETING OCTOBER 23, 2006 OHSAA ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION BOARD ROOM 1. President Dave Froelich welcomed everyone. 2. Bob Von Kaenel, Secretary led us in prayer. 3. Secretary, Bob Von Kaenel read roll call. Those absent were as follows: Wally Vickers, Bob Walsh, Amy Manco, Dave Schlabach, Dave Kleman, Dave Krauss, Rich Venuto 4. Minutes from Bob Von Kaenel for Sept. 24, 2006 were accepted. 1 st Burgei, 2 nd Heistan. 5. Treasurer s Report by Wayne Wiseman was accepted. 1 st Rettig, 2 nd Miller. 6. Wayne Wiseman gave Election Results. Tom Barrick (Wheelersburg) was elected as 2 nd Vice President. Tom announced that Doug Stiverson (Logan Elm) would be the new District 14 director. 7. Membership Report Wayne Wiseman. As of 10/22/06 we have over 2,500 members for 2006 07 year. Deadline to be a member is 12/31/06 8. Ball Contract Proposals Dave Froelich President Froelich explained that the new contract will be tied in with the OHSAA. He stated that several companies have submitted bids, and that the OHSAA and executive committee will continue to meet. It was reported that the OHSBCA has been very satisfied with the services from Rawlings. 9. District Director Reports District 1 Dan Gorski (Boardman) Beaver Local has asked to switch from District 5 to District 1. This transfer was approved by a 15 0 vote District 2 Sean O Toole (Euclid) Would like more off season time with athletes; Would like FT rule changed District 3 Bob Walsh (Elyria) State Tournament Ticket procedure for head coaches; 22 Game Schedule; Lane rule on foul shots; would like individualized instruction District 4 Joe Bogdan (East Canton) In favor of the Rawlings Ball. They do not want to switch basketballs next year. District 5 Joe Dunlevy (Indian Creek) State Tournament Ticket procedure; Tournament voting process better explained?

District 6 Greg Nossaman (Willard) Girls Division I would like 3 officials in their sectional tournament District 7 Ken Burgei (Wauseon) Would like Free Throw Rule to change; Want individual workout sessions in the off season; keep bench rule District 8 Jeff Heistan (Shawnee) Tournament voting process better explained District 9 Tom Rettig (Tippecanoe) None District 10 Bob Miller (Thomas Worthington) None District 11 Pete Liptrap (Pickerington North) Favor Individual workout sessions; Girls State Tournament Sites for the future? Certificate Awards Joe Balogh, Larry Wilson, Don Henderson, Wayne Wiseman, Doc Daugherty will meet to select uniform printing and logos for all awards. C. GAC Report Karen Wittrock, Jack Van Reeth What do we do for their accomplishments Scholarship? Girl s Paul Walker? D. OHSBCA Stipends Discussion was held in regards to the proposed increases. Motion to accept. 1 st Gorski 2 nd Burgei Motion Passed 15 0 E. Asst. Coach of the Year Award Discussion was held. It was recommended that no change take place at this time. F. Past President s Breakfast Larry Wilson reported that the breakfast will be at Holiday Inn on Lane on Saturday Morning at 8:30am. Officers, Directors, and GAC Members should be in attendance. Larry will send out an RSVP. The OHSBCA will handle the expenses of the breakfast. 1 st Heistan 2 nd Staley Motion Passed 15 0. G. Volunteers to assist with OHSBCA Events Directors should submit names for HOF Banquet, Top 100, Clinic Registration and other events 10. North South Game Report Tom Rettig (Greenville) A. Date April 22, 2007 B. Site Capital University C. Times Div. III/IV Girls 12:00 Div. I/II Girls 1:30 Div. III/IV Boys 3:30 Div. I/II Boys 5:00 D. Concerns 1) Tom will be sending a new form to directors that will assist in gaining program information.

Ohio West Virginia Game Report Doc Daugherty This game has been dis continued and will no longer be played 13. Ohio Kentucky Game Report Norm Persin A. Date April 7, 2007 Girls Game 6:00pm Boys Game 8:00pm A. Site Thomas More College B. Player nominees to Norm Persin by January 1, 2007. 14. State Board Meeting Assignments President Froelich handed out committee assignments and board of control assignments. 15. Hall Of Fame Report Don Henderson A. Class of 2007 Gene Ford (Cambridge) Mark Alberts (Wooster), Bob Walsh (Elyria) Honorary Tim Smith (Sylvania Northview) 1 st Miller 2 nd Gorski to accept the nominees. After discussion Motion Passed 11 4. 16. Hall Of Fame Banquet Report Don Henderson A. Date April 21, 2007 B. Site Airport Marriott C. Time 6:00 Social Hour 7:00 Dinner D. Cost $25.00 per ticket 17. Paul Walker Award Bob Von Kaenel The 2007 winner is Jerry Sigler (Sylvania Northview) 1 st Heistan 2 nd Nossaman 18. OHSBCA Clinic Review Paul Wayne Next year the clinic will be September 30 October 1, 2007. Don Meyer will be the speaker for all of the October 1 st portion of the clinic. This year 1100 coaches attended the clinic. A financial report will be given at the winter meeting. 19. Hall of Fame Museum Update Don Henderson/Doc Daugherty They reported that things are progressing, and they encouraged everyone to continue to push for more people to join as charter members. Deadline is Dec. 31, 2006. Their feasibility study is currently on hold until after the general election in November. The Historical Society is reportedly offering space for purchase. 20. Hooplines & Website Report LarryWilson/ Pat Carroll Turn in information to Pat Carroll for website updates. Articles and items for the next issue need to be turned in to Pat & Larry by December 15, 2006. They need pictures for all awards that are being given. They need pictures of All Star Game Coaches, Paul Walker Award Winner, SEI Winners, and any other awards selected at this meeting. We need HOF Pictures as well. Larry added that a constitutional addition will be added in regards to Girls Advisory Committee responsibilities. Larry asked about an OHSBCA Pen being sent out to remind those who have not joined. This was voted down. Larry reported that Capital University increased their gym rental charge from 2,000 dollars to, 2,600 dollars for the HOF Weekend. We did add the Top 100 Showcase and an extra day of using their facilities. Discussion was held in regard to Insurance for the All Star Games and Top 100 Showcase. Larry got Directory updates from everyone. It was suggested to have OHSBCA Scholarships presented by those whom the awards are named after. Larry also gathered information for State Tournament Rooms.

TOP 100 CLASSIC Pat Carroll Last year s venture was viewed as a tremendous success. Pat reported that the structure and process will remain the same. Insurance costs were discussed, and it was agreed that we will need coverage for this event. 21. State Tournament Rooms Larry Wilson A. Cost $139.00 per night with a 4 night minimum B. Joe will contact winners and the game announcer to get better communication for the presentation.

25. Other Business OHSAA net instructions for tournament voting procedures was discussed. Ohio Basketball Guide (publication) asked for an endorsement from the OHSBCA. No endorsement was given. 26.
