Call to Artists Expressions of Interest (EOI) City of Peterborough Downtown Mural Project @YES Figure 1 YES Shelter for Youth and Families, (Photo Credit: W. Trusler) The City of Peterborough invites artists or artist teams residing in Ontario to submit their credentials, examples of prior experience and a conceptual approach for an outdoor mural to be installed in Peterborough, Ontario. This call follows a two-stage selection process. Deadline for Artist EOI: April 27th, 2018 Midnight Project Background and Intent The City of Peterborough Public Art Program produces contemporary artwork to enhance and animate public spaces throughout the city, create landmarks and gathering places, and to commemorate events and sites of historical significance.
This initiative was conceived in partnership with the Downtown Business Improvement Association (DBIA), to commission public art murals on private sites in the city s core. The projects are intended to generate and continue interest and awareness of public art in the downtown. The Downtown Mural Project will support fresh, engaging and innovative proposals from both emerging and established artists working in a range of disciplines and media. Artworks may be created directly on, or affixed to, panels to be mounted on the building (Site Inspection Dependent). The mural will remain on site for a period of up to five years from execution, giving the property owner the option to renew the term thereafter in five-year increments. Beyond improving the appearance of the chosen location, the artwork should in some manner consider the community in which it will be installed and demonstrate an understanding of the host site YES Shelter for Youth and Families. More information about the site can be found on the YES shelter s website and in the videos links. Location The mural site is the east-facing brick facade of the YES Shelter for Youth and Families. The wall measures approximately 1271 square feet and is highly visible both to pedestrian and vehicular traffic. It is located at 196 Brock Street, adjacent to a municipal parking lot. The expected completion of the artwork is autumn 2018. Figure 2 Longview of YES Shelter for Youth and Families, (Photo Credit: W. Trusler)
