ABOUT US Ada S. McKinley is driven by its mission to empower, educate, and employ people to change lives and strengthen communities. Now approaching its 100th anniversary, McKinley is one of the largest human services organizations in the country. Investment in our work provides the most vulnerable citizens with the essential services they need to become self-sufficient and economically viable. Organization Highlights Ada S. McKinley serves 10,000 people each year at 38 program sites. Services are provided 24-hours, 365 days a year. McKinley s Educational Services Division has operated a successful College Preparation and Placement Program for more than 40 years. More than 65,000 youth have been placed at over 400 colleges and universities. The agency has 3 areas of focus: Child Development and Youth Services Employment and Community Support Services Behavioral Health and Clinical Services Services rendered daily include: tutoring, mentoring and college placement, foster care, residential, youth and family counseling, employment training and placement, and head start programs. Through its employment services area, McKinley provides job and life skills training and work placement for 1,500 adults with disabilities and/or economic disadvantages. The agency s Janitorial Services employs nearly 200 workers. Our Employment and Community Support Services program serves 130 adults with disabilities. McKinley s foster care services meet the needs of some 150 children annually. Mental health counseling services are provided to more than 3,000 behaviorally challenged, mentally ill or at-risk children and their families. The letter E has meaning at Ada S. McKinley. EDUCATIONAL SERVICES PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS Ada S. McKinley more than tripled the amount of scholarships dollars awarded to students in just two years, representing at 207% increase. 2014: $5.2 million 2015: $11.5 million 2016: $16 million 17.5 15 12.5 10 7.5 $11.5 million $16 million Scholarships include: Gates Millennium Scholars, Siemens Scholars, UNCF Scholars, Chicago Scholars, SIUC Nubian Scholars, and Presidential Scholars and more. We use innovative ways to recruit, retain and engage students. We do so by partnering with school administrators to exceed Chicago Public Schools mandated performance outcomes. 2014 2015 2016 5 2.5 0 $5.2 million SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED In addition to tripling the amount of scholarships awarded in just two years, other recent accomplishments include: With 1,589 youth served during the 2015-2016 reporting year, 100% of our students graduated and 98% were placed in college. In addition, 100% of our students who were participating in rigorous programs graduated. Named preferred community partner in 10 out 10 schools. Achieved on average 90% Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) completion rate in 4 out 5 target high schools. The remaining school reached a 99% FAFSA completion rate resulting in the staff and school receiving top honors from the Chicago Public School Office of College to Careers. Facilitated and implemented several successful Senior Action Days. This effort resulted in the placement of 97% of high school seniors in colleges and universities at four out of five target high schools and a 99% placement rate at the remaining school. Expanded the network of colleges that offer Ada S. McKinley special admissions consideration, scholarships, and other financial assistance opportunities that include on campus employment and internships. This network included top ten schools that had not in the past reached out to community based organizations.
REVIE SOREY TRUNK SCHOLARSHIP CELEBRATION For over 40 years, Ada S. McKinley has operated an acclaimed College Preparation Program providing college readiness services to first-generation, urban high school students. The program has placed more than 65,000 youth in more than 400 colleges and universities throughout the United States. For the past nine years, McKinley has awarded its college-bound students with first-year living and learning essentials through Trunk Scholarships. These off-to-college trunks are filled with the things they ll need to adjust and reach success in their new environment (desk supplies, bedding and linens, electronics, and other important items). From 2014-2016, the event was covered on CBS2 Chicago s morning news and on NBC5 Chicago s 10 o clock news. Audience reach according to Nielsen was 17,825 to 249,151 with a calculated publicity value of $1,560 to $53,600. In 2016 and 2015, Derrick C. Young (pictured), Traffic Reporter for CBS2 Chicago, served as Master of Ceremonies for the Revie Sorey Trunk Scholarship Celebration.
