SALT DANCE FEST 2018 June 4-15 University of Utah Welcome to SaltDanceFest 2018. It is my great pleasure to host the eighth year of this festival and to bring together internationally renowned dance artists Wally Cardona, Omar Carrum, Katie Faulkner, Eric Handman, Scotty Hardwig, and Pablo Piantino, along with dancers from around the country and the world. SaltDanceFest is excited to have these significant, cutting edge artists, scholars, and proven teachers in residence, and to have them share with you their diverse and unique artistic perspectives and approaches to dance. This festival is a creative laboratory designed to nurture artists and dancers in a supportive environment of exploration and collaboration. It s success rests largely upon a positive environment formed by the work and commitment of the artists and participants. Classes are an opportunity for mature investigation outside the bounds of academia. I encourage you to mingle with other festival participants, create community and share your own experiences and viewpoints. In addition to classes, SaltDanceFest will feature informal performances by the guest artists and participants, lectures, panel discussion, improvisation jam, and social events. All workshop classes will take place in the Marriott Center for Dance on the University of Utah s campus. If you have traveled here from out of state, please know that Salt Lake City is about 4500 feet above sea level and is very dry. Be sure to drink lots of water and allow time to adjust to the altitude. My colleagues and I in the School of Dance welcome you. We hope that you enjoy these next two weeks of moving, collaborating, and dance making. Please let me, Co-Director Molly Heller, or any of the Salt Dance Fest interns know if we can be of further assistance throughout your time here. Stephen Koester, Chair Department of Modern Dance University of Utah 330 South 1500 East #106 Salt Lake City, UT 84112-0280 (801) 587-9809
