SECTION II 2.1. ABOUT MSME-DI, RANCHI Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises-Development Institute (MSME-DI), Ranchi a field Institute office of the Development Commissioner (MSME), Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Govt. of India has been playing a key role for development of Micro, small and Medium Enterprises through counseling, consultancy and training. The Institute is dedicated to provide need based support to MSMEs of Jharkhand by providing technical consultancy and counseling regarding selection of product, location, raw materials, machinery, layout and production process, managerial consultancy etc. The Institute also provide relevant knowledge to MSMEs on modernization, technology upgradation, energy conservation, acquiring international quality management system, pollution control etc. MSME-DI is also responsible for implementing and conducting various schemes and training programmes of Ministry of MSME, Govt. of India in the state. It was established in 1960 as a Small Industries Service Institute Extension Centre, there after upgraded as Small Industries Service - 7 -

Institute in 1975 and renamed as MSME Development Institute since June, 2007 as a follow up of the merger of the two Ministries of Small Scale Industries and Agro & Rural Industries into Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. MSME DI, Ranchi is ably supported by its Branch Institute located at Dhanbad. The Branch Institute s jurisdiction is covered by 9 districts of Jharkhand viz., Giridih, Deoghar, Sahebganj, Pakur, Dumka, Dhanbad, Bokaro, Jamtara & Godda while remaing 15 districts i.e Garhwa, Palamu, Chatra, Hazaribagh, Koderma, Ramgarh, Ranchi, West Singhbhum, East Singhbhum, Saraikela- Kharsawan, Khunti, Simdega, Gumla, Latehar, Lohardaga are coming under the jurisdiction of MSME-DI, Ranchi. - 8 -

2.2 BRIEF NOTE ON JHARKHAND STATE The Jharkhand State which comprises of 24 districts was created by carving out the Southern parts of erstwhile Bihar. This 28 th State of the union came into existence on 15 th November 2000. From administrative point of view Ranchi is the State Capital. Jharkhand has 5 Divisions namely Palamu Division, North Chotanagpur Division, South Chotanagpur Division, Kolhan Division & Santhal Pargana Division comprising of all the 24 districts of the State. Jharkhand is endowed with vast natural resources specially the vast variety of mineral resources like Uranium, Mica, Bauxite, Granite, Magnetite, Dolomite, Fire Clay, Quartz, Fieldspar, Coal (32% of India), Iron, Copper(25% of India) etc. - 9 -

Jharkhand is the leading producer of mineral wealth in the country. The total value of mineral production is amounted to over Rs. 3000 crores. Jharkhand is No. 1 producer in Iron ore, Mica, Kainite & Uranium, No.3 in Coal Production after Odisha and Chattishgarh. Forest and Wood lands occupy more than 29 % of the State is amongst the highest in India. 2.3 THE MSME SECTOR IN THE STATE As per Fourth all India Census of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (2006-07) there were 6.75 Lakh MSMEs working in the State of Jharkhand in which 13 Lakh persons were employed. BUILDING The Institute is operational from its New Building since November, 2014 which has been built at Kokar Industrial Area, Ranchi. Before this, the Institute was operational from Two Shed Industrial Structure at Kokar, Ranchi till April 2011. After that it was shifted to RIADA Bhawan, Namkum, Ranchi where it was operational from April 2011 to October 2014. Finally it was shifted to its newly - 10 -

constructed building at Kokar Industrial Area, Ranchi and became operational from its new building since November, 2014. The building has 2 floors (Ground Floor & First Floor) comprises of Director s Room, Rooms for Technical/Field Officers, Rooms for P.A to Director, /Administration Division/Accounts Division/SENET Division, Conference Rooms, Store room, Tiffin room and a Library. 2.4.2. ESDP organized on Computer Accounting with Tally from 27.06.2016 to 08.08.2016 at NIST Computer Academy, Ranchi. 3.3 SEMINARS ORGANISED BY THE INSTITUTE DURING 2016-2017 3.3.1 BAR-CODE In order to provide Marketing assistance to MSEs under core programme target, this institute has organized 2 Nos. of one day Awareness Programmes on Bar-Code during the reference year 2016-2017.Details are as under: A one day Awareness programme on BAR CODE was orgnised by this Institute on 05-07-20156 at MSME-DI Ranchi for the benefit of MSMEs. The Programme was attended by 38 Nos. of participants. Course fee of the Programme is Rs 3000. Total expenditure of the Programme is Rs 29923/-. 3.3.2 PACAKAGING FOR EXPORT A Two days Training programme on Packaging for Export under MATU scheme for the benefit of MSEs was organized by this institute on 22/06/2016 & 23/06/2016 at Seminar Hall of MSME-DI Ranchi. Total expenditure of the programme is Rs.63000/- and total Rs.10000/- revenue was generated. 3.3.3 TEQUP (TECHNOLOGY UPGRADATION) The main objective of the scheme is to sensitize the MSME Sector to upgrade their manufacturing process towards usages of Energy Efficient Technologies (EET) so as to reduce cost of production and emission of greenhouse gases. The second objective is to improve product quality of MSMEs towards becoming globally competitive. Under the TEQUP scheme following awareness programmes on Product Certification and Energy Efficient Technologies were organized by the institute including Br. A workshop on Karyalayin Hindi Ka Prayog was also organized by the Institute on 08.09.2016. All Officers and staff attended the workshop. a) Officials of Br.Dhanbad attended a workshop on Rajbhasha on 10.08.2016 at DVC office, Maithan,Dhanbad. b) Hindi Pakhawada was also organized by Br. MSME-DI Dhanbad from 15.09.2016 to 30.09.2016 in which 7 Nos. of Hindi Competitions such as Patra lekhan, Sruti Lekhan etc were also organized and successful participants were awarded.a workshop on Hindi Language was also organized by the Institute on 28.09.2016. c) Two officials of Br.
