North Carolina Hospitality Education Foundation (NC HEF) is the philanthropic foundation of the NC Restaurant & Lodging Association and exist to enhance the hospitality industry s service to the public through education, community engagement and promotion of career opportunities. ProStart is a nationwide, two-year school-to-career program for high school students that develops the best and brightest talent into tomorrow s industry leaders. From culinary techniques to management skills, ProStart s industry-driven curriculum provides real-world educational opportunities and builds practical skills and a foundation that will last a lifetime. ProStart in NC reaches over 1300 students, across 20 counties. Nationwide ProStart reaches over 95,000 students. North Carolina ProStart Invitational (NCPI) is a high school competition focused on restaurant management and culinary arts. Student competitors put their skills to the test in front of industry leaders, family and friends -- all with an eye on scholarships to pursue further industry education. The NCPI is composed of two distinct competitions: management and culinary. Culinary Arts Competition The culinary competition highlights the creative abilities of each team through the preparation of a three-course meal in 60 minutes, using only two burners with no access to running water or electricity. There is no room for error as teams are evaluated on taste, skill, teamwork, safety and sanitation. Management Competition Management teams develop a proposal for the next hot restaurant concept and present it to a panel of industry judges. Next, their ability to think on their feet is tested as they quickly solve challenges managers face on a daily basis. Competition Rewards: The top three ranking teams from the culinary and management competition are rewarded medals and generous educational scholarships to help further their careers in the restaurant and foodservice industry. The first place teams receive a team trophy for display in their high school and will represent North Carolina at the National ProStart Invitational in Anaheim, California April 18-20, 2015. Last year winning teams brought home scholarships totaling more than $1.4 million. In addition, all competitors are encouraged to take full advantage of competing by networking with other students and industry professionals in attendance. North Carolina ProStart Invitational Call for Exhibitors Showcase your school or company to North Carolina ProStart Invitational students, educators, parents and industry leaders on March 23, 2015. All exhibit tables will be located in a premier location, making it easy to connect with attendees. In addition, we will have an incentive to encourage students to visit all exhibit booths. Attendance is expected to be 150-250. The exhibitor fee is $300 and includes an 8 X 10 exhibit space includes one draped six-foot table and two chairs.
