Purpose of the scholarship: o The scholarship recognizes and assists a graduating Catholic high school senior who is a member of St Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, who has been actively involved in the parish youth ministry/faith formation, who has demonstrated participation in the parish and community service, and who is pursuing further academic or vocational education. Number and Amount of Scholarships: o Each year, $2000 will be made available to fund the scholarship. A maximum of two (2) $1000 scholarships will be awarded each year. Application Eligibility: o To be eligible to apply, the applicant must be: a graduating high school senior anticipating attending a vocational school, college, or university a registered member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church a regular attendee of Mass a regular participant in youth ministry and/or faith formation activities Selection Criteria: o Applicants will be awarded points based upon the following criteria A max of 30 points will be awarded for academic success based upon Review of a sealed official transcript for o Grade Point Average (GPA) o Course Rigor Extracurricular Activity (i.e. SGA, Clubs, Sports involvement) A max of 15 points will be awarded for parish participation based upon Mass attendance Parish participation (i.e. Altar Server, Catechist, Choir, Parish Bazaar) A max of 15 points will be awarded for community service based upon Hours of Service Type of Service (i.e. parish based, non-parish based) o Preference will be given to non-parish based community service Documentation of Service A max of 20 points will be awarded based upon the content of a 500-word essay written by the applicant explaining why they need the scholarship and why they should be chosen to receive it. A max of 20 points will be awarded based upon the content of recommendation letters from each of the following a registered member of the parish that is not a family member of the applicant or a part of the scholarship selection committee a teacher or administrator at the applicant s current school an individual of the applicants choosing (i.e. employer, family friend) All letters must be signed and dated and delivered sealed. Application Deadline: o All applications must be submitted in their entirety by the first day of June. Applications can be submitted in person to the parish office during regular business hours or via mail to SEAS Scholarship 1000 Andrews Road Fayetteville NC 28311 o Extensions to this deadline will not be granted and no documents will be returned. o A completed application packet must include. Application Sealed Official Transcript Service Documentation Essay Letters of Recommendation Scholarship Committee: o A committee of parishioners will review the application packets and award points based upon the established criteria. o The Scholarship Committee will consist of The Director of Religious Education A member of the Parish Pastoral Council Two (2) members of the parish from within the academic community o The individuals selected by the committee will be presented to the pastor for final approval Presentation of the Scholarship(s) o Once it has been determined who will receive the scholarships, letters will be mailed to all that applied to inform them of the results.
