Media Information We hope the 2003-04 Duquesne University basketball media guide helps you in your coverage of Dukes basketball. Below is an outline of some of the services the media relations office provides to assist you as you do your job. Please feel free to contact the DU media relations office for assistance. CREDENTIALS Credentials are issued to members of the working media only. Work space at Palumbo Center is limited. Children and other nonworkers are not allowed on press row. Credential requests should be made in writing to Michelle Chini in advance of each game. If time permits, the passes will be mailed. If not, the passes will be left at the Gate A entrance (on Forbes Avenue). Credentials will be available at the media entrance 90 minutes prior to tip-off. PARKING Media parking is located at the Forbes Garage Surface Lot located a half-block before the Palumbo Center on Forbes Avenue. Those who request credentials will be placed on the gate list. Physical parking passes are not distributed. PRESS ROW Media seating is located at courtside, opposite the team benches. SEATING IS FOR MEMBERS OF THE WORKING MEDIA ONLY. Phone lines are not available at courtside (phones are located in the media room). Duquesne University and the United States Basketball Writers Association remind each member of the media that press row is a working area. Cheerleading for either team will not be tolerated. The press row telephone number is 412-396-4925. PRESS ROW SERVICE Box scores will be distributed to the media at halftime. Final box scores will be available in the media room following the game. In addition, both print and electronic media will have access to in-game statistics via video monitors. MEDIA ROOM The media room is located off the main arena court at the southwest corner of the Palumbo Center (off the left side of press row). Six courtesy phones are available on a first-come, firstserved basis. Long distance calls require a credit card for billing. To get an outside line, you must dial 9 then the number. A pre-game meal will also be served 60 minutes prior to tip-off. PHOTOGRAPHERS The NCAA has established a policy to control congestion in the photo areas during basketball games. ONLY PHOTOGRAPHERS ON ASSIGNMENT AND/OR WORKING TELEVI- SION MEDIA WILL BE GRANTED CREDEN- TIALS. Camera persons may work along the baseline ONLY on either end of the court, but not exactly under the basket support. Photographers must be seated beyond the white line on the baseline opposite the Duquesne dance team and cheerleaders. Strobed photography is only permitted for commercial publication use. Please inform the media relations office in the event you will be using strobes at a game. VISITING RADIO/TELEVISION Radio and television stations must acquire permission to broadcast Duquesne University home games. Contact Michelle Chini, Coordinator of Media Relations, regarding broadcast access. Three radio lines, plus an ISDN line, are available for visiting radio. VIS- ITING RADIO IS LOCATED AT THE FOUL LINE, ACROSS FROM THE VISITOR S BENCH. Three can sit comfortably in the area provided. A video monitor that updates player statistics during the game also will be provided. You will need to bring long phone cords to plug into the telephone jacks which are clearly labeled and located at midcourt. Radio stations serving as the official carrier of Atlantic 10 Conference school broadcasts have first right to the telephone lines. Additional lines may be installed at the A.J. Palumbo Center at the broadcaster s expense by calling the Telecommunications Office at 412-396-6059. Non-conference visiting teams may use the radio lines at a cost of $75 per game unless a reciprocal agreement is established prior to game day. POST-GAME Both head coaches and selected players will be brought to the media room following the NCAA-mandated 10-minute cooling off period at DU home games. THE DUQUESNE LOCKER ROOM AND TRAINING ROOM ARE CLOSED TO MEDIA. On the road, if an interview area is not provided, Duquesne players and coaches will be available outside the locker room. INTERVIEW POLICY Student-athlete interviews are arranged through the media relations office. We will do our best to coordinate an interview time that is convenient for both the athlete and media member. (We ask that you keep in mind between class, practice and study hall, an athlete s schedule can be pretty full.) The best time to interview an athlete is early afternoon or after practice. WWW.GODUQUESNE.COM Members of the media are encouraged to keep up with the latest in Duquesne athletics at www.goduquesne.com. Stats, results and game notes are updated daily in an effort to provide the latest happenings on the Bluff. 84 www.goduquesne.com
