GOAL Join your colleagues to learn about the most recent updates related to a variety of fields affecting your patients. Ample time for questions from the audience has been built into each presentation. TARGET AUDIENCE Primary and specialty care physicians and advanced practice providers interested in updating their practice and refreshing their knowledge related to common disease states, comorbidities, and complications. OBJECTIVES At the conclusion of this activity, the participant should be able to: Discuss diagnosis and treatment of common ear infections Describe key factors in identification and treatment of acute and chronic sinusitis Review appropriate treatment for common facial injuries Describe current Erie County programs designed to coordinate care after opiate overdose Examine outcomes of an effective coordinated care program for substance abuse Identify five local resources for substance use treatment Define appropriate use of living wills, DNR, and POLST documents Describe medical errors, such as rates of overtreatment and undertreatment, common with living wills and POLST documents Utilize the results of the TRIAD VIII study to minimize patient safety risk to appropriately ensure critical vs. end-of-life care Describe the current guidelines for treating hyperglycemia in critically ill and non-critically ill patients Develop strategies to prevent hyperglycemia in the inpatient setting Outline processes and procedures for an appropriate transition from the hospital to outpatient care for hyperglycemic patients Discuss newer antiretroviral (ARV) agents for HIV management Review recent treatment guideline updates for ARV naive patients Discuss what pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is and how you can incorporate this into your practice for HIV patients Discuss CMS initiatives to improve patient outcomes in cardiac and orthopaedic care Describe local ramifications of CMS initiatives on current models of care for acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) Identify cutaneous findings that may be associated with life-threatening conditions Indicate the most appropriate diagnostic tests to identify potential dermatologic medical emergencies Prescribe appropriate therapeutic management given certain dermatologic clinical presentations Discuss the role of neuropsychological assessment for patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) Identify patient factors that contribute to cognitive dysfunction in MS

AMA ACCREDITATION The University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. DESIGNATION The University of Pittsburgh designates this live activity for a maximum of 8.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Other health care professionals are awarded 0.8 continuing education units (CEUs), which are equal to 8.0 contact hours.
