THE 1913 SOCIETY Georgia State University Student Ambassadors Mission The 1913 Society a student ambassador program established by the Office of the President provides an opportunity for outstanding undergraduate students to serve as official hosts and goodwill ambassadors for the university. The goal of the program is to advance Georgia State University s goals and mission through service to the Office of the President and the divisions of Development and External Affairs. Student Ambassadors will represent the university and the president with the highest level of integrity and professionalism. Selected students must meet & maintain the following requirements: 1. Must be a junior or senior taking a minimum of 9 hours per semester (juniors must make a 2 year commitment). 2. Must be able to commit to serving for 1 full year. 3. Must be in good disciplinary standing as that term is defined in the Student Code of Conduct (see the On Campus Student Handbook), and prior disciplinary actions may be taken into account when determining whether the student will be considered further in the application process. All students will be required to sign a waiver allowing the Office of the President to review their disciplinary and other relevant educational records. 4. Must have a minimum cumulative 2.5 GPA at time of application. 5. Must have a flexible schedule available for night and/or weekend events. 6. Exhibit strong public speaking & interpersonal skills - speak clearly & precisely with groups and individuals. 7. Maintain regular contact with the Office of University Stewardship & Events. 8. Exhibit an understanding of, or a willingness to learn about all aspects of Georgia State University history, administration, Foundation Board members, university mission, etc. 9. Participate in events willingly & professionally. 10. Display maturity with alumni, donors, staff, etc. 11. Show enthusiasm, loyalty and dedication to Georgia State University. 12. Exhibit the ability to initiate conversations with alumni/donors at events. 13. Manage time effectively check email/voicemail regularly.
14. Exhibit strong customer-service skills: have a positive, helpful, can-do attitude. 15. Maintain ambassador uniform and appropriate appearance at all events. 16. Attend mandatory training session and regular meetings. 17. Sign confidentiality form and photo release form. Selected students will be expected to participate in the following types of programs and/or events: Georgia State University s Leadership Appreciation Night at the Depot (Annual participation required for all ambassadors) Commencement Spring and Fall (Participation required by all ambassadors) Naming ceremonies, Groundbreaking ceremonies, Dedications and other official university events Donor and Foundation Trustee events Athletics events Alumni Association events Presidential lunches and dinners Serve as student representatives in various university publications Represent Georgia State University at external functions, i.e., Chamber of Commerce meetings, legislative meetings/events, etc. Important Dates: March 7, 2007 Applications Due March 19-23, 2007 Interviews April 7, 2007 Orientation MANDATORY May 12, 2007 Commencement MANDATORY August 17, 2007 Picture Day MANDATORY December 18, 2007 Commencement MANDATORY January 8, 2008 Depot Event - MANDATORY
