Please submit nominations to: President Michigan Section ASCE Email: bacon@sme usa.com AWARD REQUIREMENTS: Historical Civil Engineering Landmark Award > The site shall have civil engineering significance. > Size or technical complexity of design/construction is not sufficient in itself to qualify for an award. > Site must have at least one unique feature. > The site should be generally available for public viewing, although safety considerations or geographical isolation may restrict access. > Project must be at least fifty years old. > The original structure should be substantially intact, although routine maintenance is expected. > Photographs (jpg format) should be included for press releases and for awards event. Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement Award OR Quality of Life Award > The project must be completed and put into service or be ready for use. > Phased projects may be submitted upon completion of a particular phase. However, please document and highlight which phase of the project is being submitted. > No project or project phase may be renominated after having received an award. > Resourcefulness in planning and in the solution of design problems should be evident. > Photographs (jpg format) should be included for press releases and for awards event. Franklin D. Meyers Civil Engineer of the Year Award OR the Edmund Friedman Young Engineer Award for Professional Achievement > Each ASCE Branch is encouraged to have a branch award to complement the Michigan Section Award. > Information provided should be as complete and accurate as possible. > To be eligible to recieve the Young Civil Engineer of the Year Award, the engineer nominated should be 35 years of age or less on February 1 in the year of the award. > To be eligible to receive these individual awards, the engineer nominated should be living at the time of his/her nomination and be an active member of the Michigan Section of ASCE. > An engineer who has moved out of state may still be nominated for service during his/her residency in Michigan. > The nominated engineer should have: evidence of technical competence, high character and integrity; completed service to the advancement of the civil engineering profession; and contributed to public service outside of their professional career. > At least one letter of recommendation should be included with the nomination information. > Photograghs of the engineer (jpg format) should be included for press releases and for awards event.
HISTORIC CIVIL ENGINEERING LANDMARK AWARD NOMINATION FORM (PAGE 1 OF 2) This award enhances our understanding of the history and heritage of civil engineering projects in Michigan, and preserves information pertaining to the projects historic development. The ASCE Michigan Section grants the Historic Civil Engineering Landmark Award to a project of civil engineering significance, designating the project site as a landmark. The project must be at least fifty years old and still be intact. The award committee takes the responsibility for recommending a Michigan Historic Civil Engineering Landmark Award seriously. If a branch nomination is approved for landmark designation by the Michigan Section, the branch will be expected to contact the owner so a plaque can be presented to the owner at the Michigan Infrastructure Conference. One award plaque will be provided and presented to the owner. Additional plaques may be ordered. All projects must be nominated by an ASCE MI Branch. No project may receive the award more than once. OUTSTANDING CIVIL ENGINEERING ACHIEVEMENT AWARD NOMINATION FORM (PAGE 1 of 2) The ASCE Michigan Section annually presents the Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement Award for a project that demonstrates the highest level of engineering skill and that represents the greatest contribution to civil engineering progress and mankind. The project must exemplify an aspect of civil engineering, while it should demonstrate use of innovations in materials, technology, or construction methods. The project should contribute to the well-being of people and communities. The project, and the prime design or construction firm, must be located in Michigan. Meritorious projects may also receive awards. The top three projects may also be submitted for the ASCE National Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement (OCEA) Award. One award plaque will be provided and presented to the owner. Additional plaques may be ordered. ASCE may also provide Outstanding Civil Engineering Certificates of Merit to submitted projects determined by the Awards Committee to be deserving of recognition.
