Parent Advisory Council 2011-12 Minutes for March 20, 2012 1) Guest Presentation Mr. Corey Kapilik, Career Connect Program at Miles Macdonell Collegiate Corey presented an overview of the program that began in Semester 1 of this school year. The program follows the Department of Education Provincial Guidelines related to their Career Development Curriculum. Students enrolled in this afternoon semester course receive 2 high school credits (Career Development Life/Work Building 30S and Career Development Life/Work 405). The program aims to provide students with exposure to a work placement for a 3 month period of time, as well as developing skills related to Career Education (i.e. resume building, job interviews, leadership and personal management, student confidence and Career Portfolio development.) Ms. Vivien Laurie also reviewed two other Career Development/Vocational Education Programs at Miles Macdonell Collegiate (Cosmetology and Health and Human Services) as well as the Apprenticeships Manitoba Guidelines where students can earn up to 8 credits working in a particular trade while attending high school. The program also overs a salary for those students involved.
