Our mission is Creating Homes. Rebuilding Lives. Why We Do What We Do Believe it or not, people are living in bare apartments right here in Portland. CHILDREN ARE SLEEPING ON FLOORS. FAMILIES WHO HAVE ESCAPED UNIMAGINABLE TRAUMAS in their war torn homelands find themselves in their new homes sleeping on blankets, eating on crates and living out of boxes. Right here in Portland? That s not okay. In 2016 Furniture Friends served over 400 families and individuals in need by providing furniture that helps them create a new home for themselves. In so doing, we feel that we also helping them begin the process of rebuilding their lives. How We Do It Furniture Friends partners with local social service providers, hospitals, faith-based organizations, municipalities and schools to identify people in need who lack the financial resources to purchase furniture on their own. Following an inhome assessment, we welcome clients into our warehouse to select their furniture. Alternatively, volunteer teams deliver furniture to clients without access to transportation. Furniture Friends relies on the generosity of individuals and businesses to donate gently used furniture that can serve as the essential building blocks of a new home. We have volunteer opportunities for individuals and groups. Ranging from Administrative, Fundraising, Operations, Promotions, Truck Driving for pickups (ongoing), Furniture moving.
