JANUARY 22, 2018 2018 4-H Fruit & Meat Fundraiser Information Dear 4-H Family, I am pleased to announce that Crow Wing County 4-H s annual Fruit & Meat Fundraiser is officially underway! Given that 4-H is a non--profit, this fundraiser helps us raise money to help offset many of the costs associated with participation in 4-H. In 2017, we raised around $9,000, which went toward helping pay for state trips, camps, educational activities, the summer intern, and other programs, in addition to helping provide scholarships to participants who were enrolled last year. To help us continue these benefits, we are encouraging all youth and families to participate in the 2018 Fruit & Meat Fundraiser. Enclosed you will find the following materials: How to Do It & Why Flyer providing detailed info on the fundraiser. Order Forms used to keep track of individual orders. Complete and submit these to the Extension Office by February 23. More forms are available from the Extension Office or Extension Website. REMINDER: Families will be required to sell a minimum of $200 of fruit/meat to qualify for scholarships through the CWC 4-H Federation. PAYMENT. All fruit must be paid for when ordered. Money/orders are due to the Extension Office by February 23. DELIVERY. Fruit and meat will be delivered Saturday, March 24. You will be notified of the pick-up time assigned to Independent members. Pick-up will be at the Crow Wing County Highway Department Garage (16589 County Road 142 - by the airport). Once fruit and meat packs have been verified and counted, they will be ready for pick-up at your designated time slot. Fruit and meat packages will not leave the distribution site until they are double checked and counted by a fruit sales committee member. During this time, we are asking for your patience and assistance with volunteers as your items are sorted and loaded into vehicles. Families should make arrangements to deliver their orders immediately. Individual buyers are not welcome at the distribution site. SPOILAGE POLICY. As our fruit sales continue to grow, we have put a policy in place to address any spoilage concerns. The helpers that look through the fruit before we divide it into orders do an outstanding job. On the small chance that fruit needs to be returned, the policy will be that the fruit should be returned to the Extension Office on or before 5 days following delivery. That means if you have a customer with concerns, their fruit should be brought to the Extension Office on or before March 29 to be eligible for a refund. No refunds will be made after March 30. QUESTIONS? Contact the Extension Office at (218) 824-1065. With your help, we will have a successful fundraiser while providing nutritious, quality fruit & meat and developing leadership skills. Happy Selling! Sarah Ukkelberg 4-H Program Coordinator 218-824-1069 sarahu@umn.edu *MAKE CHECKS PAYABLE TO: CWC 4-H FEDERATION*

2018 4-H Fruit & Meat Fundraiser: How to Do It & Why PURPOSE This sheet will help you be a successful sales person and help the 4-H Federation raise money. In 2017 CWC 4-H raised around $9,000 from the Fruit & Meat Fundraiser, which offset the cost of scholarships for camp, state trips, events, activities, and educational programming that you may have participated in throughout the year. WHAT are we selling? The 2018 fundraiser will include the following items: Fruit from MinnTex. MinnTex is the same produce company that CWC 4-H has used in past years. This fruit is guaranteed to be fresh and of exceptional quality. Chicken packs from Nelson-Shine Produce. Nelson-Shine Produce is a local (4-H) family business that specializes in poultry. Meat packs from Thielen Meats of Pierz. Thielen Meats of Pierz is also a local family business offering meat packs similar to those offered in the past. WHY are we selling? Money raised will go into the County 4-H Federation. It will be used to support state fair trips, summer camps, project fun days, general programming, and other educational scholarships. To access the scholarship monies, each family must sell a minimum of $200 in fruit and/or meat. WHO should I sell to? Anyone you can talk to, telephone, or visit. Ask relatives, friends, family members, school, church and business acquaintances. Just remember, you are responsible for giving them all the details of the sale and delivering the fruit to them. HOW Do I Reach My Goal? Step 1 Contact individuals. Step 2 Tell them who you are and that you belong to Crow Wing County 4-H. Step 3 Indicate that you are selling fruit/meat as a 4-H fundraising project and would like to know if they might be interested in purchasing some. Profits will offset the cost of educational opportunities, state fair trips, and provide scholarships for 4-H members. If They Are Interested Then: Step 1 Give them details-pounds and prices (listed on the order blanks). All fruit is guaranteed. Only 4-H ers can pick up the orders at the delivery site. Step 2 Fill out the order form remember to: (1) Print legibly. (2) Be sure to have the correct spelling of the name & a complete address. (3) Have the correct phone numbers. (4) Double-check with the person ordering to see that the form has the correct items. Numbers on the wrong line can make a tremendous difference - We DO NOT order extra fruit. (5) Be sure to have the total double-checked by the person ordering or by a parent (6) Make sure your name and telephone numbers are on the order form. (7) Make checks out to CWC 4-H Federation. FRUIT MUST BE PAID FOR WHEN ORDERED. (8) Turn all orders and money into the Extension Office by February 23.
