WEST VALLEY~WARNER CENTER CHAMBER OF COMMERCE C H A M B E R C R O N I C L E S APRIL~MAY 2015 MEMBERS IN THE NEWS UCC Small Business Awards United Chambers of Commerce held its annual Small Business Awards where the Chamber honored Tim Gaspar of Gaspar Insurance for his outstanding work and commitment to the community. A great community turn out this year. Musician and chamber member, Jazzy Boy Jeff was there to entertained the crowd. IN THE VALLEY Welcome Special Olympics World Games at the Memorial Day Parade Chamber members along with neighbor host towns, Northridge and Chatsworth came out to the Memorial Day Parade to present the Special Olympics World Games float. The host towns and volunteers brought attention to the event and the Chamber s host country Greece with a 4 x 6 Welcome Hellas banner. Special Olympics Bowling Benefit Thank you to friend of the Chamber Gary Montgomery for leading the bowling benefit for the Special Olympics. Along with Rhonda Finkel, 70 players, 16 lane sponsors and loads of raffle prizes, the event was a success in helped the WVWC host town reached their $10,000 fundraising goal. Community Benefit Foundation Art Grants for Local Schools Councilmen Bob Blumenfield presented art grants from the WVWC Community Benefit Foundation to five local schools. It is to support art supplies for the students of Wilbur, Vanalden, Tarzana, Nestle and Portola Elementary Schools. Great work kids! Career Fair at Taft High School Nearly 1,000 students were provided the opportunity to hear about career options from trade to corporate positions. The Chamber Education Committee presented their Get Empowered Get Employed program to hundreds of junior and senior students.

Microsoft hosted InnovateHer. Each host submitted one local winner to the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). The finalists made a live pitch to a panel of expert judges during National Small Business Week, May 4 8, in Washington, D.C. They competed for top three awards and prize money totaling $30,000. Diana Williams served as a judge with 2 other community leaders, Kelly Iblings from Securitas Inc. and Pete Robbins from Strata IT. RIBBON CUTTINGS Frankie s Italian Kitchen A ribbon cutting was held for the family owned Italian restaurant in Tarzana on April 2nd. They have been serving delicious food in the valley for 20 years. Pita Corner Cafe On April 8th, the Lebanese Mediterranean café had a ribbon cutting for their location in Tarzana. Chef Baha Hakim receives a certificate during the event.

RIBBON CUTTINGS Great Clips The Great Clips team with owner Sashi Bhatter gathered outside their hair salon in Woodland Hills Gateway Plaza for a ribbon cutting held on April 23rd. ARK Family Center On April 30th the center with Dr. Edward Kudaverdian and Bernadette Medina celebrated their new store location in Woodland Hills with a ribbon cutting. Younique 3D Fiber Lash Representatives Dana Giammaria and Mimi Richmond and her son gather with Chamber members, Mercy, Felicia and Diana for a ribbon cutting on May 7th for the all natural mascara business. Breakthrough Strength & Fitness A large crowed gathered with owners and trainers, Caleb and Kati Terray to celebrate their ribbon cutting on May 29th. They are dedicated to helping people improve their lives through mind and body fitness.
