Masonic Charity Foundation of Oklahoma Masonry in Action Award - Application The Masonic Charity Foundation appreciates the fine charitable work being done by the lodges across the state. In order to honor these achievements and encourage continued growth in fraternal and community charitable efforts, the Foundation has established the Masonry in Action Award. The Masonry in Action Award is designed to provide special recognition of two lodges each calendar year in their own communities by providing a $5,000 grant to be awarded to the organization(s) selected by the winning Lodge. PRIZES AWARDED: A $5,000 grant on behalf of the winning lodge, given to the organization(s) of the Lodge s choice. A total of two $5,000 grants will be awarded for the calendar year. WHO CAN APPLY: Any Masonic Lodge in Oklahoma! If your lodge has participated in any of the Masonic Charity Foundation s programs during the calendar year, your lodge could be a recipient of the Masonry in Action Award! SELECTION CRITERIA: Award recipients will be selected based on Lodge participation in the programs offered by the Masonic Charity Foundation. These programs have been divided into four categories: 1) Promises Matter Grant and Promises Matter Matching Funds utilization (40% of score), 2) response to the Grand Master s charitable appeals (30% of score), 3) Lodge support of Public Education programs (20% of score), and 4) community charitable activity (10% of score). Each lodge s application will be scored by the award committee based on specifically identified criteria related to these categories. The scoring criteria have been designed to give every lodge equal opportunity to be the recipient of the award. However, in order to recognize the efforts of lodges of all membership sizes, one winning lodge will be chosen from small lodges in the state (fewer than 100 members), and one winning lodge will be chosen from large lodges in the state (100 or more members). HOW TO APPLY: Submit your Lodge s application by March 31, 2017. An application form is attached. All information requested on the form must be completed based on the preceding calendar year. For example, if you are applying in 2017, your application should be completed based on Lodge activity January through December of 2016. Incomplete applications will not be considered. WANT YOUR LODGE TO WIN THE MASONRY IN ACTION AWARD NEXT YEAR??! HERE S HOW!! 1. Utilize the benevolence programs offered by the Masonic Charity Foundation! Promises Matter Matching Funds: This program matches funds raised or donated by the Lodge for the benefit of Master Masons and their wives/widows/mothers, Masonic orphans, and female members of the Eastern Star. The Matching Funds program essentially DOUBLES the financial gifts the Lodge makes. Caring for fraternal brethren and their families is a priority for every Mason. Look for opportunities to help brothers in need. Promises Matter Grants: When a Master Mason or his wife/widow/mother/orphan or a female member of the Eastern Star has a financial need beyond what can be provided by the Lodge and Matching Funds, the grant program provides additional financial assistance. Actively follow up with brothers in need to make sure their needs have been met. Grand Master s Charitable Appeals: The Foundation matches the financial contribution each lodge makes to the Grand Master s appeals for funding to support fraternity-sponsored O.E.T.A. programming, the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma, and the Regional Food Bank serving western Oklahoma. Support the Grand Master s appeals! Community Matching Funds: This program matches funds raised or donated by the Lodge for the benefit of the community. Have a charitable presence in your community! Create opportunities for the Lodge to be seen by members of the community in a positive light, and make a difference! 2. Participate in the Foundation s Public Education Programs! Reach out to student essay contest winners! Interact with the students and teachers recognized in the Student of Today and Teacher of Today programs! Utilize opportunities for the Lodge to be seen at award and recognition ceremonies by having lodge members present! If your lodge is active in the programs offered by the Foundation, don t be afraid to toot your own horn your lodge could be the recipient of the MASONRY IN ACTION AWARD! Page 2 of 9
