HAWK WEEKLY Volume 3, Issue 32 March 14, 2016 A Note from the Superintendent STUDENT LED CONFERENCES will be held this Thursday from 4:00 pm to 6:30 pm. It is very important that you participate in these conferences and you can come at any time. Students direct the conferences by talking and sharing what they did to earn their grades. They will share student work samples and explain their grades. At this week s conferences, we will also be having a VERY IMPORTANT PARENT MEETING to share news about our upcoming carnival. See page 8 for additional details. You will need to attend any of the following meeting times: 4:30 pm, 5:00 pm, 5:30 pm or 6:00 pm. RE-REGISTRATION AND COURSE SELECTION for the 2016-2017 school year were completed last week. If for some reason you did not complete these processes and would still like your child to attend NVMI next year, please contact the main office immediately. We are in the process of giving slots away to applicants on the waiting list for those who did not complete re-enrollment in the past two weeks. U.S. Department of Agriculture Thanks to an arrangement with the US Department of Agriculture, NVMI students are now eligible for FREE BREAKFAST, LUNCH AND SUPPER as part of the Provision 2 program from the federal government. That means ALL STUDENTS, regardless of family income level, are eligible for free breakfast, lunch, and supper every school day, including the summer time. Students simply go to the cafeteria and get their free meal. No payment, no application, no additional information needed. Just eat! Many of you may have seen news stories about a requirement that the California Department of Education release your child s private information to a third party. Here is a link to information about this situation and a way for you to OPT OUT so your child s information is not release if you do not wish it released. The California Department of Education ("CDE") has requested that local educational agencies throughout the State post the following link to CDE's website http://www.cde.ca.gov/morganhillcase to provide parents notice of the disclosure of student records pursuant to a Court Order issued in a lawsuit filed by the Morgan Hill Concerned Parents Association and the Concerned Parent Association against the CDE. (Case No. 2:11-cv-3471-KJM-AC). The CDE website provides a Notice for your review and an Objection Form should you wish to object to the disclosure of your child's personally identifiable information. The form is also included on page 5 of this newsletter. If you have any questions please visit CDE's website at http://www.cde.ca.gov/morganhillcase or contact CDE at (916) 319-0800. SUMMER CAMP All Cadets are invited to participate in NVMI s Summer Camp at Camp Pendleton June 18-28, 2016. The cost of the trip is $100 and is due with the permission slip by 8AM on April 2, 2016. Cash or merits are the only form of payments that are accepted. All cadets will be given a receipt for payments. Payments are NOT refundable. Payments should be made at the Hawk Exchange. Cadets may pay partially in merits and partially in cash, and may make installment payments through the Hawk Exchange. Cadets should bring the items included on the packing list provided with the Camp Circular. If there are questions about the packing list, please see your TAC team. For additional information, please see page 2 The following units are available: Basic Non-Commissioned Officer course (BNCOC) for cadets in grades 6-9 in ranks below C/SGT. No prerequisites. Cadets successfully completing this course of study will be eligible for promotion to C/SSG. Advanced Non-Commissioned Officer course (ANCOC) for cadets of any grade level in the ranks of C/CPL, C/SGT, or C/SSG who are have passed all NVMI classes first semester and are passing all NVMI classes as of 3 rd quarter report cards and who do not have excessive permanent demerits (more than 30 as of March 12). Cadets successfully completing this course will be eligible to earn promotions to C/SFC or above. Officer Candidate School (OCS) for cadets of any grade level in the rank of C/SSG or higher who wish to be commissioned C/2LT or C/WO1. They must have passed all NVMI classes first semester and are passing all NVMI classes as of 3 rd quarter report cards and who do not have excessive permanent demerits (more than 30 as of March 12). Cadets must also have passed the Fitnessgram during 2 nd semester 2016. Cadet Medic School (CMS) Cadets must be in high school during the 15-16 school year and at least the rank of C/CPL. They must have passed all NVMI classes first semester and are passing all NVMI classes as of 3 rd quarter report cards and who do not have excessive permanent demerits (more than 30 as of 12 March). They must also pass the FEMA online course, Introduction to the Incident Command System, prior to May 27, 2016. Survival Training Unit (STU) - Cadets must be in high school during the 15-16 school year and at least the rank of C/CPL. They must have passed all NVMI classes first semester and are passing all NVMI classes as of 3 rd quarter report cards and who do not have excessive permanent demerits (more than 30 as of March 12). Cadets must also have passed the Fitnessgram during 2 nd semester 2016 AND have a medical doctor s permission to attend survival training. Parents of cadets interested in attending Survival Training must also attend a 30 minute orientation on the night of 3 rd quarter Student Led Conferences at 1800 hours. Cadet Military Police School (CMP) - Cadets must have at least the rank of CFC. They must have passed all NVMI classes first semester and are passing all NVMI classes as of 3 rd quarter report cards and who do not have excessive permanent demerits (more than 30 as of March 12). Cadets must also have passed the Fitnessgram during 2 nd semester 2016 Cadet Ranger School (CRS) - Cadets must be in grades 8 or higher during the 15-16 school year and at least the rank of C/CPL. They must have passed all NVMI classes first semester and are passing all NVMI classes as of 3 rd quarter report cards and who do not have excessive permanent demerits (more than 30 as of March 12). Cadets must also have passed the Fitnessgram during 2 nd semester 2016 AND have a medical doctor s permission to attend this training. Marksmanship Training Unit (MTU) - Cadets must be at least the rank of C/CPL. They must have passed all NVMI classes first semester and are passing all NVMI classes as of 3 rd quarter report cards and who do not have excessive permanent demerits (more than 30 as of March 12). Cadet Summer Camp Leadership Cadets must be a cadet MSG or higher. Cadets will need to select their first, second, and third choices of units for camp on the application form. Units will be filled on a first come-first served basis, so getting applications in early is advantageous. Cadets must turn in (1) an application, (2) permission slip, (3) Camp Pendleton Release Form, and (4) Medical History Form with (5) their payment to the Hawk Exchange. In the case of cadets participating in the Survival Training Unit, parents must complete an additional STU permission slip which will be made available at the Student Led Conference Survival Parent Briefing only. Cadets participating in the Marksmanship Training Unit, Cadet Ranger School, or Cadet Military Police School must also complete a separate Marksmanship Permission Slip.
